Location: Peg-Leg Julia Grimm | I've had a sig sauer p290rs for 2 years now. I got it right after the bad terrorist attack San Bernadino then right after that in Paris. I took the required gun safety classes to get my concealed carry permit and I have it with me all the time when I'm off my property. I have it next to me when I'm at work. Everyone that has regular hours in the office is carrying or has a handgun in their rig. I need to take more classes, it's just hard to find time.
I personally don't want to open carry. I want to have the ability to discern IF I want to pull my gun and when I do, I will know what I want to do with it. Concealed carry gives me the option to choose without being the first target.
I'm really happy that one of the things DJT wants to do is standardize the CC laws nationwide. It's utterly ridiculous that one state has reciprocity but another doesn't. It should be like a drivers license, good everywhere you can drive.
Part of the class is about knowing where you can carry and where you can't. Federal property is one place you're not suppose to carry. |

I've had my CCL for about a year now, and I do use it. I carry a Ruger SR9c, because it fits my hand well and I'm comfortable with it. But I can operate my husbands guns as well.
My husband and I took the class for the reciprocity laws. Kansas has constitutional open carry, and I find open much more comfortable, but typically I conceal simply because it causes less weird stares and stupid questions. Yes, I'm female, yes I'm a natural blonde, yes I'm 5 feet tall, yes I can back my own trailer, and yes, I can probably shoot better than you.
We also have taken multiple classes on handgun vitals--which is not only shooting, but things like clearing stoppages, one handed operation, rapid reloads, shooting from multiple positions, shooting under stress, target selection, etc. They also went over a little on how to handle a shooting situation and how to relay that you are a good guy to witnesses and cops.
I always have a loaded and racked gun in the console of my pickup with extra mags. My husband carries in his big truck and has since a suicidal guy, high on drugs, tried to step up on his step and open his door, AFTER trying to step out in front of his truck on the interstate.
I am glad that I live in a constitutional carry state, however, that doesn't mean I think everyone should carry a gun just because they can. You need to be educated on how to work it safely, and keep up that education, and practice gun handling fairly regularly.
I've only been to one grounds that has signage about firearms, and it was only open carry that was not allowed. I however didn't carry in the building. I didn't disassemble, I just locked it in the case (loaded) and locked it in my pickup.
While I commend you for carrying, I must disagree about Open Carry. In my not so humble opinion OC DOES NOT invite trouble. In fact just the opposite. Cause criminals are basically cowardly who primarily prey upon the weak. And d really life scenarios illustrate this.
That wasn't the reason I said I didn't open carry--someone else did, but not me. I'm in support of open carry, because I believe gun ownership is a right, I just encourage (read: that's just my opinion that I don't impose on anyone else) everyone who chooses to carry, concealed or open, to be educated and practiced...not just to carry because you can.
My CCL class was literally 10 rounds. That's it. If you could put 10 rounds in your target at 10 yards, you passed. My handgun vitals class was close to 400 rounds each of the two days, and my husband and I took it together. That was back in January, and it really boosted my confidence in my gun handling. But I need a refresher and will probably do so this winter. They are not cheap classes, but worth it to me. |

| I TOTALLY agree with lots of education and practice with guns. The 10 shots for the CCL is a joke. You need to know what you are packing inside and out! |

Practice and education is key in regards to being proficient with One's Carry Weapon. Either open or concealed. |

He said that was cool and that his girlfriend was a competitive shooter. Since I looked perplexed at his question he mentioned my Glock ball cap! ha-ha -- no idea I had it on..... THEN stopped a second time and the convenience clerk at that store mentioned how cool it was for women to have guns and shoot -- he also noted the Glock ball cap. I told my husband I would never travel alone again without that Glock cap -- it really made a statement to folks -- any "grandmother" wearing a Glock ball cap should be respected and feared! LOL! |

I actually choose not to advertise my interest in guns on my clothing or vehicle or anywhere else. I feel like if I'm concealing then I don't want anyone to know or suspect that I am. It's like wearing a "shoot me first" sign. Now if I was open carrying then it wouldn't make much difference but I don't OC. Just a different perspective :) |

This woman's purse had the compartment in the inside of it - not necessarily a good place for it! The ones with the compartment in the back are easier to conceal & easier to handle your own gun. This young mother made a foolish mistake - she was an experienced gun handler & shot, and unfortunately did not take in to consideration the curiosity of a little child. I know folks that are good friends of theirs - and all close to her say that this should NOT be an example! She wanted all women to learn to shoot & defend, and would NEVER discourage anyone. |
