Location: Montana | My 2 y/o has exceedingly wide shoulders...my colt saddle doesn't fit her at all, and my good saddle kind of fits her; it is a little tight on her shoulders, but fits them, but is wide on her back because the rest of her hasn't caught up with her shoulders yet. My good saddle fits my main mare well, so I'm not too keen on using my good saddle on a 2 y/o, but I also don't want to spend an arm and a leg on a saddle (even used) for a 2 y/o that is going to grow and fill out more and likely change. Any opinions will be most appreciated and I'll attach pics of the 2 y/o's back (I couldn't get a pic from the back of her back without some help, so its just the sides).

Location: on my horse | My little mare is built like a barrel, shes very broad through the shoulders and also back. I LOVE my treeless Jackie Jatzlau for her, and I love how it rides, it is seriously the most comfortable saddle I feel secure but not trapped and even take dressage lessons in it (since it's the only thing I own that fits her lol) I bought it felicia at horse tack world and I'm pretty sure she spent almost 2 hours on the phone with me while I was making up my mind. That was about a year ago and no complaints so far, I use a classic equine pad with the Poron cushion thing in it, no soreness at all and she's really moving great. Vet and chiropractor approved.
It's not a cheap option, but at the same time because it is treeless, if you get the wide fit as she grows it will fit and fit and fit, its just flexible enough to accommodate their changing backs but not too much to make you feel like it closes in around you or you're riding a glorified bareback pad.
ETA: I also use it on a higher withered horse frequently without issue

Location: Wonderful Wyoming | Meleta Brown. I used it on my colt Gunner. He's a soggy made 15 hand horse. Used it on him when he was 2 and also use it on a 16.3 hand HUS horse and my kids super fat wide shouldered horse. It fits them all great. |

Location: BRITISH COLUMBIA CANADA | I like my Bob Marshall treeless. It fits both of my geldings and their backs are completly different. My older gelding has a high wither and big wide shoulders. I ride him with a gel impact pad. And my younger gelding is round like a barrel with wide shoulders and slightly downhill so treed saddles were always jabbing him behind the shoulders. I ride hime with a 5 star pad. Love the versatility the treeless gives me and have never rode a more comfortable saddle and its awesome running in it as well. |

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | Double J makes a wide, I have one and fits really nice, and I also have a Double J #10 tree they fit a horse that has more of a dip behind their withers just more rock to them then the other trees. |

| I have several wide shoulder horses. I use a cactus CJ, 7" gullet. Fits them all well. I also have a crown c 7" gullet that works too. I've had the double j 10 tree and loved they way it fit my horses but I felt trapped and never felt like I could keep my legs in front of me
The cactus you can find used for about 900- 1000 |
