| My mare has really hard heats and people I bought her from said nothing really works for her, she will come into heat no matter what. I decided to try regumate last few months and they were pretty much right. There is a SLIGHT improvement but not really significant enough to really keep her on it. What happens if you just stop?? SHe is coming in heat right now so I figured it might be a good time to stop if I was going to. Thanks! Only thing that really works is Mare magic a little. I also have her on curost Adapt and Calm. Thanks! Vet originally said to leave her on it until end of october. She is a super hard worker and works no matter what. I just feel sorry for her sometimes! LOL

| My mare comes into heat within a week at least, other than that I haven't noticed anything. I keep mine on it because she has bad heat cycles (painful, leans against gates/trailer, lack of focus) and is ****y when not on. I would definitely recommend finding out why the regumate is not working for her! I give 12ml/day, how much are you giving? Not sure on the mg/ml dose though |

Vet told me 10cc daily.. I asked about increasing it and he told me really 10-15 would not matter. lol I might try 12 and see what happens.. She is a hard working B_______ lol So her performance is totally the same ( solid 1-2 d hard worker). |

Location: Peg-Leg Julia Grimm | It's 1 cc per 100#. She will proceed to come in heat as soon as you take her off it. Especially if she's been on it for at least 14 days. |

| My mare was the same way - solid 1D/2D. She would still cycle through Regumate. We tried every supplement we could find and nothing worked. We even tried to do implants. She had broke two panels this summer by rubbing and trying to relieve her pain. It would look like she would throw her body against a panel... It was heartbreaking to watch. Eventually, we decided just to spay her. She was bred awesome, but not worth the pain she was in.
CSU did the surgery laparoscopically - 2 weeks after spaying, I was back to riding her. 2 weeks after some legging up we were entering races again. She has never looked or felt better! Her face has relaxed, her coat looks healthier, and Im not buying new panels (lol). I want to say it was about $1,500 total.
But, to answer your original question... I think when you take them off they just cycle right afterwards.

Your mare actually sounds worse than her! lol I considered spaying but really not that bad quite yet. I like the idea of maybe low dose prevocox or something for the time she is in heat. Duh. Why didn't I think of that? lol certainly easy to do. I do use lame away spray on her back and loin and she really appreciated it. Thanks so much for the suggestions. |

Location: Florida.. | Has she been thru a few cycles the hard cycling mares it takes a few to really benefit from it. Id give it another month or 2 but thats just me... good luck.. i gave my mare that wasnt on it banamine once or twice when she got really crampy and it helped her .. because she would be at the point of colicy and laying down.. |

| I agree with what others have said. If you stop, she'll come in right away. And, even though you don't think it's working because she still comes in heat, it is helping her. She's gonna be worse without it. And, as a woman, I can tell you that type of pain sucks! My advice would be, keep her on it from Mar to end of October and if she's in heat while you run, give her banamine to help with pain. |

 You get what you give

Location: Texas | If you stop giving regumate they should come into heat within a week. Regumate does not prevent a mare from building a follicle, but it does prevent (usually) ovulation of those follicles. So if a horse is painful because of a huge follicle, then regumate may not be doing much to help. If she is showing behavioral heat on regumate, I am not sure if I would continue using it....because its not doing its job so why keep spending the money on it
Have you had her ultrasounded to see if theres any abnormalities in her ovaries that may cause painful heat cycles? |
