Location: Somewhere around here | For those of you who run your horse in a hackamore, any type of hack, what do you do when you're horse starts getting a little on the pushy side? I ride my horse in a Jim Warner currently out in trails, no barrel work for us until spring, and have a loose rein + loose chin strap these days but over the last month he's been getting just a little pushy. Here's been ridden in the Jim hack since August and this is the first time pushyness has come up. I'm curious if I should do some walk/trot with with a bit that he likes to loosen him up or is there any other option I can do with the hack? |

| One thing I've had to really remember with a hack is that they're different from a bit in your ability to keep constant contact. If I keep my mare in a hack and keep steady pressure on it, she gets numb to it. I've had the best luck kind of "popping" mine with them, say on the run home. I give them complete release, and hit them a few times gently using my finger-tips to remind them it's there. |

| When i ran a horse in a hack i tuned him in something else and ran him in a Jim Warner on the weekends. You lose a lot of bend I've been playing with Ronnie clampitts hack it has a chain nose wich it gives it bend contact him he is the hackamore King, very helpful and knowledgeble |

Location: Phoenix | I would try tuning him up with something in his mouth. Mine only gets the hackamore when he's riding good in a bit and respecting it. I can ride him in an o-ring up to a Pretzel and he stops/turns/rides the same regardless of that's in his mouth.
I agree with the others--you do have to bump them more than pull with the hack. |

Location: Heart of Texas | I only trail ride and run in a hack. Otherwise I tune in a variety of bits depending on what I'm wanting to work on. |

Location: Idaho | I have a really nice ratey 2D gelding I run in a Jim Warner hackamore... he would get too stiff and pushy if I rode in it daily... so I actually would do dry work, trail work and even warm up in one of my Dave Elliots. We only ran him in a hackamore because he would get to bendy and the hackamore helped him stay up and not bend his ribcage as much. |

Location: Cocoa, Florida | I run my mare in a bozo sidepull hack but during the week I exercise her in a short shank lifter. I never use the same bit I run her in to exercise her.
I would say every time they get pushy stop and back them up or turn them in circles until they go the gate you want them to! |
