I have only had my treeless for 9 months and this weekend I had a two day barrel race. Tonight when i got home i noticed my mare was pretty sore about a foot back from her withers. Is this a common issue? I ride her in a thick Won pad and air flex cinch

What kind of treeless? Bob Marshalls and Circle Y you shouldn't be using a thick pad

That's what I ride. I use a saddleright pad on one of mine and a 3/4 inch 5star on the other. You are not supposed to ride with a thick pad.

I have a few friends that have gone to using a CSI with their treeless. No more sore backs and they like the way they ride better.

I've considered trying one on my little horse, but he is petite and I am over 150lbs, which many saddle fitters say is the upper weight limit for the treeless.

I've always heard it's closer to 200lbs that you need to start being concerned about weight.

I think it has a lot less to do with weight than if you are a balanced rider. Saddle pad choice can help eliminate/prevent "some" soreness from an unbalanced rider, but not all of it.

I've always heard it being less than that, especially if you are not a quiet balanced rider.

I'm 170lbs and both my vet and chiro both warned against it, especially on my smaller horse if I don't want to see them any more often than I do.

But to each their own.

This is always the weight I have heard as the upper limit for most treeless brands.

Hmmmmm i have alot to think about then. I do believe i am a balanced and correct rider, but i am over what you are saying is the recommended weight. Mainly because i am 6'2". My mare is about 15.2-15.3 ish hands tall with a big build
