FIRST ONE IS THE MUCH BETTER FEED ..
The first line shows real grain and the rest of the description is the pellets
that is in this bag of feed ..
Horses need to chew their feed so saliva will start the digestive process ... this is also why they have big teeth made of bone that grows all the time ... so they can eat hard stuff without any problem ....
2nd one is nothing but reprocessed items from human food or ethanol by products ... love the artificial flavors ...
If only humans would figure out that brown sugar and your favorite chocolate chip cookies are made with molasses a naturally made sugar cane product.
lol...

In this case I would choose the pellet beacause it does not have corn or molasses listed, both of which I refuse to feed my horses. In general though, I prefer less-processed feeds. When I was feeding grain, I used whole oats, flaxseeds, and Renew Gold as the only pellet. Alfalfa was also key.

| I am with BarrelhorseUSA on this one. The vegetable oil could be anything and so it could be contributing to any inflammation going on in my horses' bodies. I also am not feeding my horse artificial flavors. What are these artificial flavors and why do they have to add something to make it palatable? | |

I would feed neither one of these as I dont know who the feed company is and how they mill.
| |

| The pellet is only 1.25 more. im currently feeding the texture and it's fine, but some people who have personally fed both like the pellet better. It's also higher in protein. (12% vs the texture which is 11%) both the same fat. | |

| Comes down to your personal opinion on the differing ingredients then.
Some people like corn.
Some don't.
Some people like molasses.
Some don't.
Some people like soybean products.
Some don't.
I would do your own research on the differing ingredients and form and opinion based on your horse and what you need from him - more weight, more energy? And consider his special needs - age, joint issues, etc.
And make sure the mill is not milling medicated livestock feeds alongside horse feeds. If they are, scrape them all together.

Location: on the fine line between insanity and geniusness | My issue with the pellet is the second and third ingredient. Beet pulp and soybean bulls are nothing but fillers. They will make your horse LOOK more full, but are nutritionally useless IMO. The textured looks to be the better feed.
| |

| I'm gonna do some more research on each individual ingredient.. Anything I should look out for? Things you may like to see on a tag more than others? | |

Location: Willows, CA | I would not feed either of these feeds based on the ingredient list shown. The first has corn and a high NSC level. The second has rice bran that is not listed as stabilized, which means that it is rancid. No mention of the oil source for either one.
The best additive you can feed is better hay. Once you do that, additional concentrates can be fed at a much lower rate, which is always better for the horse. As to the protein level, 1% makes no difference in the overall diet. You vary the grams of protein per day more than that by the way you scoop it out of the bag.
