Lord knows I'm not the most experienced with saddles; I'm still riding the same one I got when I was 14! I have to use a biofit correction pad in order for my saddle to fit my horse, and was thinking its time to save up for a new saddle! My saddle is a 14.5 saddle king with 7" gullet. What brand/ gullet size and other features would help ensure a better fit on my high withered horse???

Performance saddle company twist tree or Caldwell rocket are the only ones that worked well for me

Are you honestly sure it's a 7 inch gullet, or are you measuring out in front?  Most older saddles (and even current ones) the gullet is 6.5 or 6 3/4.   A 7 is an oddity for older models.
If it is a 7 inch, it's too wide for a high wither horse.

You'll want something that is not a true 7 inch gullet.  You'll probably want something with more rock (meaning a U shape that fits the horses U shaped back, rocking chair leg) and depending on how wide your horse is, Semi-Quarter horse bars, or Full Quarter Horse bars.  Most are FQHB anymore.

I'll go back and remeasure tonight to be sure. I'll measure the roping saddle we use on him as well because it seems to fit him much better and he really strides out more when using it.

I have had a lot of luck with my Debra Sibley on my guy with a big wither. Mine is the standard fit. If I were to buy again, I would like do the wide because mine has a big shoulder.

There is no way you can get a true measurement on a finished saddle. The tree is measure befor all the leather is put on it.
Post a picture of your horse, the ones with eagle eyes can help you out better by a good picture.

from the one picture of him standing there he looks like he needs a saddle with some rock to it. I would call Double J and asked them about their #10 tree they have its for horses that need some rock, I have one and it fits my big boy great.. But its kind of hard to tell by the picture..

I really love how the double J's look and I've heard a lot of good things about them. I just don't know if I can afford one! Lol

Oh I understand about being able to afford one they are pricy saddles.. Another one that has some rock to them is the older Martha Joseys, I love her saddles, you can find good deals on used ones.. I'm sure you will get others on here that can help you out on what a good saddle would be for your horse..

Love my Double J. Go to Lynn McKenzie facebook page. Thete are 4 videos to help with saddle fit by her on Utube also. I had a Double J standard tree but was too narrow and pinching my horse. I contacted Lynn on messenger and told her about all the saddles I had been trying and nothing fit. She had me send her photos of my horse and could tell right away what he woukd need. He needed a wide fit. I found a Double J Lynn McKenzie Special Wide Fit online for $1200. Perfect fit. For high withered horse that drops off or has kinda like hollow areas she may recommend the Double J Nueva or Nueva wide tree. Once you learn from her which tree you need you can search for Double J saddles that have that tree. You can get Lynns style saddle or Pozzi or just a Double J saddle. She will ask for specific pictures. Good luck in your search. Oh and forget about gullet size......she will tell you its the bars of the saddle that matter most.

That's awesome!! I'm glad you were able to find something that fit! I've watched a few of Lynn's videos and she is so knowledgeable! I'll go back and watch them again and maybe I can try to Contact her to see what she thinks. I would go to someone and have them personally fit a tree to him but I'm not exactly in horse country and I don't know of anyone in this state that does that! Lol

Thank you so much! You've been helpful! It's just hard for me to fathom paying 3000 for a saddle! I still owe about that much on my car! Lol

My one gelding is high withered. None of the DoubleJ pozzi's fit, not even the #10 tree. i ended up with getting a Martin FX3 7" gullet. in one weekend i was able to try all these different saddles at a show and make runs in them. all of the pozzis would sit on the lower part of his withers. no matter what pad i used, even the biofit

Awesome!! Well if I decide to go to a big show, I'll have to message them! That would be ideal to be able to try before you buy!

Second this, my mare doesn’t necessarily have high withers but she is petite and has a set of wither for sure.
