Where to start.....I have IBS-D and diverticulous. Definately start a food journal. Find a "good" gastro doctor. When mine got really bad and going through an attack I stuck to the BRAT...bananas, rice, applesauce and toast. Have to give your colon a rest. Foods that I absolutely stay away from are peanuts, spicy, tomatoes, tomato sauce, BBQ sauce, chips, dip, basically this forces you to eat "clean" and I mean clean, no fatty meals, I have been making my own soups with clear liquid, low sodium, I take probiotic, yogurt (but the plain). Aloe Vera Juice or the softgels, Sovereign Silver. I have just started within the last two weeks of taking the Silver and that has done more for me than anything with getting the inflammation down in the colon. There are so many variables to Colitis, Chrons, etc. I read the other day that it is just not a gluten free issue either. Although I have cut down on bread, pasta, etc. You just have to find out what works for you, everyone is different. I get up in the mornings between 4:30 and 5:00 am just so I have enough time to go out and feed horses and get back in the house in time to go to the bathroom and get ready for work. Sometimes I go to the bathroom about 5 or 6 times in a matter of an hour. After starting the Silver I have noticed that it has cut down to about 3 times in the morning then maybe, maybe once when I get home at 5:30 in the evenings. I don't eat that much either so I don't know where it all comes from. What I have also found out is that in the evenings I eat a very small meal and before 7:00. Before I was diagnosed I lost about 40/50 pounds and didn't need to loose. But I was also going to the bathroom about 24/7 everyday no matter what I ate or didn't eat. Luckily I was not working at the time. I guess I didn't know I was so sick. I just thought it was stress as I went through a divorce and moved out of state. Part of it was probably stress. Now when I need to lose the weight I can't.
All I can say is I feel for anyone that goes through this, it is not fun never knowing when an attack is going to hit you.

Thank you very much for sharing. My husband also has to get up extra early in the morning. I will look into the Silver, I have read about it before but something different.

I had completely forgot about the Silver until I started doing searches as to why I couldn't get the colon calmed down. I also take the HU CurOst. I also get the IGard from either CVS or WalGreens. It also helps. Basically what I have found out is that the colon is inflamed and just like our horses' gut you have to get the inflammation out. Good Luck and hope that you find something that helps.

I don't wanna raid your thread but does anyone have IBS, more so towards IBS-constipation? I was told I have IBS and have problems with stomach pain, excessive bloating, etc. Anything help for you all? To the OP, I hope your husband gets to feeling better!!

Chron's disease can affect the whole digestive tract where as UC typically affects the colon only (sometimes the end of the ileum as well). I would try to get a physician who is an IBD specialist. They should be able to help decipher whether or not he has CD or UC and they can help with drug recommendations. He may be eligible for clinical trials with more options as well. Also check out ccfa.org. Best of luck!
