Location: California | Sooo, basically as the title states, when doesn't a treeless saddle fit? I really LOVE to ride bareback, so I feel this may be the best option for me. My Andalusian colt is 4 (late maturing breed-think Arab)-but I still haven't started him yet because none of my saddles fit. I sent pictures to Charon Caldwell, she suggested he needed 7.5 gullet with flat bars (ProMax). I can't afford a Caldwell at the moment, and really don't want to spend the money, when my horse is just going to grow again anyway. I also was in contact with Roohide & really love their whole deal, BUT again-my horse will 98% likely be changing again soon.
SOOO if you've made it this far (lol), what about treeless? I'd be interested in a Bob Marshall. |

Location: Oklahoma | I ride in BM treeless and love it on my mature horses. I rode my 2yo for the first time in it last Sunday and it really felt like I couldn't get it far enough back off her should blades. She is still running "down hill" a bit. When I took if off and rode her around bareback she seemed to move better, more freely. Her shoulder blades do seem taller then my mature horses, but it could just be me. |

Location: California | Hmmm. I feel like I have the opposite problem. He has a very uphill build. The saddle I have now is only 6.5" gullet & it's a horrible fit. I can't get it to stay forward. Plus it's a cheap-o anyway. But my other 3 saddles don't fit either. Here's a pic of him saddled from this summer. It's weird because he appears to be so scrawny-but tell that to the saddle LOL

Location: Texas! | My gelding that just had KS surgery hated a treeless saddle. Obviously before we had a diagnosis for KS I always thought he was just hard to fit so we went through a lot of different saddles and the treeless was the worst he would buck and it left HUGE dry spots along his back basically where my thighs sat. |

Oh how weird! I've always heard you shouldn't ride bareback on a horse that has KS, so I could see how that would make sense! Definitely something to keep in mind. Thanks! |

Location: The best kept secret in TX | I would try a BM with the relief built into the front. Here is the facebook group for all the BM saddles. https://www.facebook.com/groups/429872220422547/ Contact Betsy Freeman on Facebook or this page. http://www.mybobmarshallsaddle.com/other-interesting-things She can either build you the perfect fitting BM or can point you in the right direction for a used. Find her number on her website and give her a call. She is very sweet and knowledgeable about which BM would work for you and your horse. |
