Some complain about riding and racing and how they don't enjoy it..... well, then what is the point? You have to have fun doing this. It is like playing golf for me....I am horrible, but I enjoy getting out there with friends and have a good time. It is not about winning or having expensive horses, trailers, etc. It is about the fellowship, self improvement, or what ever it is you choose to focus on. My daughter rides horses that cost less than what some have spent on matching breast collars and headstalls, but she enjoys it.

Kind of like this weekend, my daughter got a new horse that needs to be seasoned and this was her first run at an event with the horse. While in the holding pen before she ran, she told me that she was scared, but she took her new pony and cruised a nice easy pattern. My daughter doesn't show much emotion, but came out grinning ear to ear so I know she was enjoying being there.

Guess, all of that was to say, Enjoy life. It is way too short and fragile to fret over a hobby like this. Hope you all have a great week.

This is how we all should look at our hobbies. We only get one round in life and we need to find the enjoyment in it. Just look at how many people that would like to have a horse and never will ever get the chance.

Very well put and I completely agree!  I know some people do this for a living but for most of us it is a hobby.  There are times I get bummed out after a few bad runs so I take a week or 2 or more off.  I used to feel guilty if I didn't go every single weekend but I decided that if I wasn't having any fun or didn't really want to be there, I most likely wasn't going to do well anyway.  I love this sport and can't imagine not ever doing it again but it's okay to take a break every now and then - for your own sanity/health as well as your horse's.  There's always next weekend!

Lula Bell took her older gelding and her younger mare to Marshall Saturday, and had a ball. Between school and life she hasn't been able to ride much at all in the last month or two. The horses have just been getting put on hot walker with one run or so a month lately. She said even tho everyone, including her, was out of shape, she was proud of her 16 something runs. Left all barrels standing and horses and human came out safely. Her exact words were "I had a good time and I'm happy with my kids." I told her you couldn't ask for more than that!
