Just curious if anyone here has a type 2 horse. Are you able to ride them and have a relatively normal life? My horse that I have had for 6 1/2 years just got diagnosised. We suspected it earlier in the spring, just never had any definitely diagnosis for him. Never had any problems with him until last fall. I think he is doing well now, started riding him and he seems like he feels good. He has days he does not, but I have been trying to keep him exercising by hand walking him. We are doing no more than 20 minutes of work right now, but I have hopes he will do better.
Then I have another horse who I really suspect has it. I have only had him 3 1/2 months and was only able to use him the first 2 weeks out of that time. Started out with back pain, but now he is having the exact same body pain my pssm horse is having. I have had 3 different vets and 2 different chiropractors look at him, x-rays, a few therapies, and absolute no improvement. He tests n/n for type 1. Also had him lyme tested because the body pain for pssm mimics lyme disease. He is perfectly sound, but with his back pain he is not rideable. I probably won't have any results back from him for the pssm for at least a month or two from the sounds of it. I had felt so overwhelmed with my other horse and now I just feel completely overwhelmed with him. I have him on the same diet my other horse is on and I have tried keeping him exercised lunging him and have seen no improvement with him. I just don't know if I can handle two horses with it. I spent a lot of this money (well for me) and even more on vet bills and I am worried he is just going to be a pasture puff like yet another horse we have.

Give me a call at 530-934-9300. We do a lot of programs for PSSM horses, and can help.

Have you started your horses on a PSSM 2 diet?

Yes the one horse has been on it for about 4 months and doing pretty well. The other new horse about a month. Yes he has been x-rayed for kissing spine.

First make sure you have a high protein diet and head on over to the PSSM forum on FB you will get GREAT info. I have one that is 6 and type 2, I am not able to ride her right now but really hoping to be able to. The most consistant exercice program seems to work best (every day or every other day) and just remember some horses are affected more than others
