I was hauling to a race the other day and when I turned my engine on when I was leaving I heard a strange "whirring" squeak noise from my engine. It sounds fine to drive but idling it makes a strange noise... and I saw a small puddle of fluid under the front half of the truck - in between the front wheels-ish. It is watery - not oil - and doesn't have a distinct smell.
I have a dirt driveway so I've never seen it before, I only noticed because I was parked on asphalt. Any ideas? I can email a clip of the noise to anyone who might have ideas.

Planning on bringing it to the mechanic next week after the holidays if I can't figure it out. It is a 2013 F250 diesel.

Thanks all! Happy Holidays!

Hmm...there isn't anything really watery other than anti-freeze or windshield washer fluid. Anti-freeze has a definite sweet smell, windshield wiper fluid doesn't. What part of the country are you in? A lot of times condensation will drip off of a vehicle (more so in the summer it will drip off the air conditioning compressor) so that is a possibility, and that will just be clear water.

As for the whirring squeak, I'd be glad to listen to it, but it is really hard diagnose from here, LOL. Again depending where you are in the country, it is possible you have developed something as simple as an alternator squeak or a belt squeak. Our car developed an alternator squeak  this week with below zero temps, but it goes away as soon as it is warmed up out.

But not being there, it is really hard to diagnose. It doesn't sound like you really have an issue, but I can't tell without looking or being there.

ummmm sounds like you may have a water pump going out...has your engine temp been running normal?  you may have a small leak in your water pump like a gasket and the sguealing will come from your fan...

Ladyelbert maybe right in her diagnosis as well. Again, from the information given, it is really hard to give an accurate diagnosis. It would likely be a good idea to have it looked at by someone local. If it is a waterpump, that needs to be fixed ASAP.

I messaged you both. I'm from the Northeast so cold temps have hit already. Possibly the water pump? Looks like it will go in before the holidays...

With the engine off, and key out, open the hood. Reach behind the radiator and try to move the fan front to back. If any "wobbling" is detected, do not drive except to load it on the trailer. That would be the water pump. I would consider this unusual for a '13, but depending on miles, sure could be.
