Stage fright

Have a horse that smokes a pattern in practice and small shows. Get to big shows and it's like he has stage fright. Have tried all the calming pastes there are. He's a stud so ace is out of the question. Any suggestions

My trainer rides him and she is completely 100% calm. He walks in arena fine but once he starts his run it's like he panics

I'd look for pain. Mine was the same way; stellar ANYWHERE but when you entered. I chalked it up to him hating it and continued to rope on him. 7-8 years later fast forward and we find out he's got a chip in his right knee--right barrel is the one he'd ignore and smoke the other 2. He was sound otherwise so I continued to ride him.
