Do you exhibition at a show? Do you stand him in the gate and make him sit quite and let him know thats a nice safe quite place for him to rest? Or does he always think he must go mock 9 when near an arena?
I have done exhibitions some and it tends to end up worse if I do. The exhibitions usually go well but I only go 3/4 speed. Then the run falls apart. I don't go near the gate unless I'm going in the pen right after but I do let him relax in the holding area before and after I run and he does fine there.
When I practice I do walk back in the arena and relax and get off after I run to let him know it's not a bad place.
You need to learn to slow work her and be able to put her where you want her at all times. Get with a barrel trainer in your area and take a few lessons. They can help you find a slow work at home bit and a bit to run in.
If you are unable to try watch some slow work on trainingbarrelhorses.com . My favs are people like Molli and Jolene Montgomery, Ryan pedonne, and Danielle Campbell. Lots of great videos on there.
You need to be able to set your horse in the gate and them be calm, be able to slow work and put them where you want them when you want them, and it sounds like you probably need to tune them a little and get them backed off the bit some because he sounds like they have a hard mouth and get strong in a run really need to find a professional in your area and at least go to one or two lessons and get some drills to help you.
A good lameness vet visit and someone to critter your shoe job first though and have the vet check out your horses teeth as well.
