I would really like to start becoming more educated on bits, and I know there are hundreds out there. I know the basics, but would really like to learn more in depth details. Like why it is designed that way, its purposes, how and why it works.
Are there any books, blogs, videos, etc out there that you guys have found helpful?

I feel like I have poor memory at times and would like something along the lines of a book that's easy to follow along with and quick reference.

Thanks!

I would say start with the AQHA handbook, then try to find a book on bits. Also you might find a basic training book which shows what bits are used for what. I think you would get more out of a training book than anything.

There is a guy who has several books out on bits and he really describes the uses and pros and cons of them for the Western Rider. They are yellow with a white binder. I can't remember the man's name but I have them at home and will post it after I get home from work if you would like. He also explains how and why you would use each bit.

Amen to these!

Learn about bits from people that barrel race! Its good to incorporate the ideals of others, listen, and learn but ideally you want to be listening to those barrel people who are probably using certain bits to help keep one turned. Not that a bit is a fixall BUT theres probably a good reason so many trainers use a loomis in their slow work :-)
