Horse temp differences.....

I always keep an eye on my horse's temps during weather changes etc. I just made an observation. My mare who is slicked off with no hair was 99.8. My colt who is totally haired up from coming from a cold state out here to CA was 100.8 I know both are in normal range but I wonder if being haired up raises body temp a little bit ? Both horses were blanketed. Just curious.

I would think the more hair the hotter they are, my gelding that is the hairest out here sweats more then the others that are slicker on the warmer days.

I don't think that hair or no hair would affect the core temp substantially.
I have one horse who runs around 98.2. When he developed a joint infection his temp was 99.5, this is what most vets consider normal, thankfully my vet knows that I know my horses.
I think it is awesome you check your horses temps routinely

I sure do!! And it's good for a baseline. Maybe he runs a little hotter. Will be interesting to see the longer I have him.
