Expert Posts: 2128	For those of you who landscape a little around your barn, what are some of your favorite plants. Needing ideas. I live it HOT HUMID Louisiana heat and plants would need to be full sun. :)

Expert Posts: 3815 Location: The best kept secret in TX	Here is a list of TOXIC to horses plants to bookmark and take with you to get bulbs or blooming plants to plant around your barn. They are in alphebetical order and easy to find when searching. http://www.aspca.org/pet-care/animal-poison-control/horse-plant-list Here is a list of plants that are Full Sun (8 or more hours) and native to the south. Most are deer, rabbit, and rodent resistent and attract insect that will pollinate your flowers/garden area: Bee Balm (2 foot tall at maturity.) -Require Moist well drained soil Helen's Flower (4 feet t maturity) -Perinnial -Moist well drained soil Stoke's Aster (3 feet at maturity) Moist well Drained Soil Swamp Lillies (4 feet at maturity) Moist to wet soil Pitcher Plant (18 inches at maturity) Mosit to wet soil False Indigo (5 feet at maturity) Moist well drained soil (my favorite) I had Hibiscus flowers listed but those are on the toxic list for horses according to ASPCA's website. ETA: You can buy a soaker hose at Home Depot or Lowes to spread across the entirety of oyur bed so that you can water while feeding the horses without actually having to stand and water them. 	If you have an outside wash rack ... lay down some stall pickings where the water drains off ... and plant you some watermelons .. and about 20 sweet corn seeds ... and have a happy 4th of July ... Fun to watch them grow ... no weeds .. just keep throwing some used shavings around them.. I'll add pepper tree's to this list as well. I know most horses don't find them appetizing, but when they do it's lots of $$$ at the vet and a scarred up liver. Speaking from experience
