Of course, bar angle is only one aspect of many, when it comes to saddle fit.
The angle of the bars on the tree should match the angle of your horse. It's really only "viewable" at the front portion, and the rest you can to go by what you can feel with your hand and/or what your sweat marks are showing you.
This bar angle does not work for my horse. It is tight and pinching where my hand is.

This bar angle on this bare tree is too narrow. This particular tree is also bridging in the center.

This saddle is too wide on the bar angle. It doesn't match up and it is also sitting down hill.

This saddle seems to be a good fit. The bar angle matches well, and there is even pressure all along under the saddle, with even sweat marks.

I would also encourage you to visit this website and also this website to educate yourself further.

Location: Georgia | I will def be looking at these websites when I get a chance. So how do you know what to buy for your horse? Just a guessing game or find someone that has all different kinds of saddles? |

Location: Wonderful Wyoming | I did trial and error. Tried to buy cheap-unfancy well known brands that I could resell if a bad fit-they all fit the same and pinched in the same spot. It was depressing. I met up with Meleta Brown after having 2 horses that would actually pitch a fit due to the fit. She let me ride in her personal saddle that has a tree unlike any other, it was a perfect fit and I could take my husband's ranch horse around the barrels without him giving me some jumps out of the 2nd barrel. I also drug every saddle I owned to town and let her do a saddle fit. Some were terrible, some could make work with shims and strange enough my big ol show saddle was a great fit. So I bought one of her saddles and it has fit on every thing I have been riding lately, roughly 4 diff horses. So I sold my last Triple Creek and bought another of her saddles so I can have 2 ready to go at the same time. I think my issues was in the rock of the tree and also too narrow of bars. |
