| So I've listed my horse, a broke, solid, money winner, and no emails!!? I'm just curious what are people really looking for when buying a horse? |

| Where are you advertising? Around here people advertise on Facebook and horses can sell fast. My trainer sold one last year in an hour. It's nice because it's free, you can post as many photos and videos you want and people can just message you on your ad or pm you. |

Location: On My Horse! | Advertising on BHW is a good start. Just make sure you have decent pictures, thorough ad (be descriptive)and since the horse is legged up and winning, include videos. If the horse has a record. Include it. Please include price. It drives me nuts when people put "private treaty". What may be expensive to one person is in the price range of another. If I knew off the bat you wanted 25K for your horse and my price range is 15K I could have saved everyone's time by not inquiring about your horse. I agree, Facebook is always good because it's free and you can post lots of pictures. I've found word of mouth is the best. I just sold one recently. I called my friend, who knew of someone looking, told them, they were interested, tried the horse and sold. |

People are serious about buying horses, but majority of horses are over priced.
This! I've noticed a lot of horses priced super high. I wonder if they're actually bringing what the owners want..

Anyway... to elaborate, it is very frustrating. The horse market here is definitely not what it's always been. Unless you're 15, then yeah, I guess it's always been like this for you.
I have gotten lots of messages from kids whose parents aren't monitoring their computer usage (like 1Dsoon's parents) when the ad clearly says he isn't a kid's horse.
I have had a few serious local inquiries, just wasn't a good fit. And, I'm not willing to drive very far for anyone to try, so that's been an obstacle. I have also been told that, if you can send them to an area where the market is better like some parts of TX or FL, it would be worth it to have a trainer sell for you. Popular bloodlines are also easier to sell than broke, solid, etc.
There are so many 2D-4D + horses on the market, people can get them cheap. They can definitely find a deal, and that's what they're after. I can't blame them, there are deals to be found right now. Still, frustrating.

Location: Southeastern Idaho | I find when I am selling a couple things affect my sales.
First, is pictures of the sale horse. I think pictures are SO IMPORTANT! Having a bad picture or just a so so picture will kill sales, especially when there are so many nice horses to choose from. I know I will skim over an ad if the picture doesn't catch my attention. If I am guilty of this how can I expect others not to be? When I get ready to sell a prospect I will take tons of pictures to find that one that I feel would get my attention. I will then show it to folks that will give me an honest opinion before I post it on the ad. I figure I get one chance to capture that attention want to make the most of it. When we sell bulls we hire a gal to come here to take pictures of our bulls for the same reason. A bad picture is worse than having no picture at all.
2nd is the time of year I am trying to sell. Seems like different types of buyers are looking at different times of the year. Prospects seem to sell better as spring is coming on (at least for me) and finished better in the fall. Not sure what you see in your area but that may be a factor. |

Location: South Georgia | From a buyers perspective, having just bought a horse in the last couple weeks, I can tell you that very few good horses were actually listed for sale on websites. I know...I looked...at them ALL! LOL I had the most luck with listings on Facebook actually. The mare I bought was posted about by someone locally and then shared several times by her friends. Word got out and someone was able to point me toward the owner of the mare that was for sale.
I can tell you though, it wasn't easy to find ADS with horses for sale, at least ones that weren't priced outrageously. I had to message every racer I could think of locally to get feelers out there. So, in your case, I'd recommend sharing your post on Facebook so that your friends can help you do some of the work. |

Nita, when you learn that you are dealing with a very miserable person, you will understand. She is probably comparing to her horses. I really have not figured out if she is playing stupid or if she really is. That is a tough one. |

| You would be surprised at what little things people look for when buying a horse. If you would really like sound advice on how to make your ad better, post the link if it is on BHW, or PM it if your not comfortable with that.
Things that make the best ads:
Great pictures-please brush your horse and get a good angle that makes their butt look nice, head not look like a draft horse and no pics of someone standing in the saddle where you cant see the horse.
Great description-what the horse is currently doing, what the horse has done in the past, how long its been running barrels, if you say he/she is a 2d barrel horse, how many entries and where were you running, if the horse has any bad habits, any past or present injuries. Current Xrays are a plus.
Videos-a competition run and a slow work at home is great but Please Please make sure the video is bigger than a quarter and not blurry. Nothing aggrevates a buyer more than not being able to see the video bc you took it on your phone and then uploaded it to facebook and then copied it somewhere else and now its distorted and tiny.
Put your location (City)-Texas is huge, im not driving to the other side. :) (Just an example)
Phone number-someone actually interested is not going to email you, they will call you and ask when they can come look.
