Location: Southern Michigan | My heart breaks as I read about all the fire victims recently, and I want to know where/how I can help?
Being up in Michigan I can physically get down there, I don't have a rig to ship hay, I don't have much money. But I want to give something to help, plus I'd be happy to share with all my local horse friends up here.
Where is the best place we can donate $20, $50, etc.? Are there any companies that I could say but a bag of feed to donate, or say buy a few bails of hay for them to truck? Not being from down there, I'm not sure what has been set up.
Any ideas of how we can help would be greatly appreciated.
Sending prayers to everyone |

| I believe I saw that Danco Forage is having an auction where you can purchase feed and the proceeds will go to benefit fire victims, and you can also elect to donate the feed purchased if you choose. |

Location: Where I am happiest | I have seen through facebook a gofundme page for fire victims. There are a couple stallion auctions going on to benefit, and I saw a bank has a fund set up. Maybe try google. I know Victory Farms is donating from their stallion breeding auction of their stallions. - http://gofundme.com/texas-panhandle-fire-relief

Location: Bandera, TX | I mailed a check to the Volunteer Fire Department in Canadian, TX. They are organizing help in that area. You have to write "Fire Relief" on the check.

Location: Displaced Iowegian | The Stockgrowers Bank in Ashland, Kansas (622 Main St.) is taking donations for the ranchers in that area. It burned over 2/3 of Clark County. My eyes tear up every time I read another article about the fires. We lived in Ashland, KS for 2-1/2 years (1977-1979). We were the 4-H leaders of one of the clubs so we know many of the families affected by the fire. |

We have donations as little as $150. You can donate the cubes too and we will take care of. 100% of the money will go to one or two of the most needy victims. All donations are going through a 501c. There are a lot of hay and general donations but we want to be a blessing directly to someone who will need financial help. Thanks.

Location: That part of Texas | I can only speak for stuff here in Texas (and in my county) but we've seen a huge influx of hay, feed, and other supplies in the past few days -- it's very amazing and humbling. So many people have stepped up to the plate to bring in needed supplies. Honestly the hard part is getting these ranchers who need the stuff to sometimes take it versus them trying to make sure it goes to one of their neighbors. I know from helping out after our the 2006 fires, you practically have to drive the stuff up to them, dump it out by their barns as they are saying thank you but doesn't someone else need it more and then trying to get them to let you know how much more they will need and what else that they need that they haven't told anyone about. We're all a little too hard-headed for our own good and trying not to take from each other around here that sometimes it's hard to get people to accept the smaller things like bagged feed, medical supplies and even fencing materials. Hay -- well, you can take it to their place while they are at church and dump it off so they can't bring it back lol -- so that's a little easier to get them to take at times.
Right now, most of the families of those lost are asking not for donations to cover funeral or medical expenses but that any donations people want to send be done in the name of the victims (Cody Crockett, Sydney Wallace and Sloan Everett) with money sent to many of the local volunteer fire departments.
Not everybody knows, but here in the Panhandle we don't have organized fire houses outside of the cities and bigger towns. It's all volunteer fire departments that operate on donations and the hard work of the guys (and some girls) who work on the equipment to keep it functional and go out to fight these fires as volunteers. Many times they are at work, must leave there to go fight a fire all night and go to work the next day without much sleep or any compensation. When we have big fires like this, the equipment gets burned, wears out or is damaged in the heat so that it has to be replaced. Donations are huge to keep our operations going so that we have operational equipment that works when we have fires like this.
If you want to make a donation to many of the local fire departments who helped with the fire that killed Cody, Sydney and Sloan, you can donate to this fund or straight to the departments (make a donation in their name that the family will get a card saying it was done) and it would be a wonderful tribute to those lost:

Location: In a happy place | I have read some posts on Facebook that some have lost their barns and horses and they don't even have a halter left. So horse equipment might be something that some could donate if you can't donate the hay, feed and fencing. |

And speaking of auctions, I just want to say that one of our very own BB's had her own auction in support of the efforts and raised quite a bit of money for the WRCA. She's very talented and might post about it -- I just wanted to covertly recognize her and thank her for what she did.
I know I've tried to keep up and repost all of the auctions and fund pages I could find on FB but there's just so many out there I had to give up. It's amazing the love and support that is being shown by so many people. |
