| I did a search, didn't get a lot of stories.
Tell me your success and your failure stories.
Investigating surgery or cutting my losses.
4 year old, started collecting fluid on hocks, both sides.
Won't know damage to cartilage until we scope.
Only had about 30 days on the barrels, bred nice, good minded colt to be around. |

| Had them taken out of a yearling many years ago. His were huge. He went on to have a decent career and never had any lameness issues after. We also had a race mare that we had them removed out of her stifles as a 2 year old after she ran for a year. She got her ROM but that was about it. After surgery, she had a speed index of 98, I believe it was, and was Stakes Placed. |

| Well that sounds promising!
So far everyone has recommended I do the surgery and not look back :) |

Location: Texas | I would do the surgery. I would not expect him to remain sound without it. |

I agree 100%. Without surgery the horse won't be sound. Do surgery and move on from there. |

| I agree on the surgery.
I just didn't know if should sell him cheap for someone who wants to take the risk. Or take the risk myself.
I don't know the success rate I guess, of the surgeries. |

| Anyone have suggestions on who the best surgeons would be to consult on this case?
I've got 3 opinions, 2 say not to do surgery and one says to do it. |

| I live in Missouri but I will haul about anywhere.
Having lots of suggestions of trying winstrol (the version made for in the joint) over surgery. because he isn't lame. just a flat appearing hock joint that collects fluid... |

| What is the reason for leaving them alone according to the two vets? |

Location: South Dakota | My 4 yr old developed fluid in her hocks, and went with the surgery...my vet strongly recommended surgery. Glad we did it! |
