Location: Texas | I had my second blowout on my LQ trailer, and I don't have to explain how much damage that does to fenders, etc.
I discovered my trailer only has 10 ply tires (supplied by the manufacturer). In the past, I've put 12 and 14 ply tires on my trailers.
Is 10 ply really a tough enough tire for a 7500 lb (empty) trailer? |

| I wouldn't even mess with 10 ply especially when hauling horses. Why risk it when there's a better/safer option for a little more money? We have 16 ply on our 4 horse 11' short wall LQ. Some say it might be overkill but it's peace of mind when hauling long distances. |

| Around here, we call 10 ply tires 'pizza cutters'. I don't know why the factory even bothers putting them on a big LQ trailer like yours. Go with the 14 ply (or 16 ply as others mentioned). |

Location: North Central Iowa Land of white frozen grass | Do you have a ST trailer tire or do you have a LT light truck tire. I will not run a trailer tire on anything. You don't see light truck tires blowing out like you see trailer tires. Firestone learned that lessin with making faulty tires. If a trailer tire comes apart its just tough they don't care and neither does the lawyers. If a LT tire comes apart and somebody get killed then lawyers and liability suits come into play. |

| 14+ ply. Ours came with 10's on it and as soon as we get our dually some new rubber it's at the top of the list to get new shoes. |

They have the dreaded Chinese made tires on them, but they are so heavy, I have never heard of one blowing out or causing problems. My plan, is that once the original tires wear out, I will replace with US made ones. But the dealer states they will rot before you wear or blow one. I believe him.
We did get a bad set on a new trailer we ordered with them on. Boar came out and replaced all 5 with no questions. We couldn't get a good balance on them.
Good luck. |

Manufacturers put 10 ply on there cause they are CHEAP.... Profit margin explains it. And I don't know why so many people are against chinese/mexican made stuff, a lot of times its higher quality than American made because you have a highly skilled workforce that gets less salary. Doesn't mean the product is bad. We need to cultivate an AMERICAN work ethic that actually cares about the product they produce. Like it used to be.... |

Location: In The Snow, AZ | I posted about our trailer/tires a few weeks ago when we had a blowout on our brand new trailer, resulting in a fender taking flight and holes in the trailer. We're still battling with insurance and waiting for the approval of the estimate. We have 10 ply, load range E, junk Chinese Towmax tires. They are the next set we will replace once the funds come in. We just put 4 tires on hubbys work truck, 4 on his work trailer, and 4 on our stock trailer. So as soon as it's affordable, we are replacing the LQ tires. Likely going with a truck tire. At LEAST 14ply. |

I remember your post - it's maddening. My 2 blowouts didn't do too much damage, but did bend a spot on the fender and did some questionable damage on some wiring. |

| Put a heavier ply tire and have them check your axles while they're at it. A lot of these companies are not putting heavy enough axles on the trailers, they bend and then you blow tires, or wear them out quickly. |

We have the boars on our big stock trailer. If I ever have the time to order a new LQ it will have the boars as well. The only way to go-plus put good rubber around them - load range "J" for us. |

Location: Roping pen | On that new trailer that we ordered, the boars where the same price as the GT614 Goodyear 14 plys that was stock. A lot of top shelf LQs or big stock trailers come with the Goodyears. I've had to many GT614s blow after a few years and 20k miles. None for me ever again.
I am pretty sure a Boar dealer would be a lot cheaper than the web site. If I remember, our local dealer, boar rim/tire was ~240ish....??? But you can sell your 16" rims for some of that. IF Alco rim, should be able to get $100 or so out of each rim????

Location: Weatherford, TX | I know nothing about this; but hubby told me....now you go by the weight rating, not the ply like I thought. We essentially have semi tires on our 4 Star 4H with 18ft LQ and a 'tire guy' said we would not wear them out. I have no idea what ply they are. I don't know if it that helps. :)

I went back and re-read and the price was for a wheel and tire, I thought it was for one tire. So, they really aren't that bad.
I can't find any dealers by us. |
