My sister took me and a friend to the Royal Gorge when she was running pro. It was great and we had fun exploring and making the bridge move.
We had a family reunion in Colorado Springs and the Monument of the Gods was fun, we even did the horseback rides. Pike's Peak was fun, we didn't go but family did and loved it.
My daughter lives between Ridgway and Montrose and there are camping sites all in the mountains. We spent several days just driving from one spot to another and getting our feet frozen in the streams. It was so cool to explore without having to worry about rattlers.
Ouray was cute to run around in. When we go back we want to fly into Denver and take the train to Durango, I think. Also, my aunt and uncle take the train in Silverton, I think, every year for their anniversary. They love it so much.
I am from South Texas, so I apologize if I got some things wrong. Most of this was YEARS ago when my kids were in their teens, now one is 31 and the other 28, gaaa, I feel old now!
Just wanted to add that we were told Coloradians didn't like Texans, but we NEVER found anyone like that. In fact, we got complimented on the good manners my kids had. Very friendly people and I look forward to going again this summer.

My family really enjoyed the Anasazi Cliff Dwellings by Mesa Verde. It depends how young your kids are, there is a lot of climbing and exploring. I wouldn't say there is a lot to do around it, but the drive is gorgeous and then you could do the four corners.

We also took a very nice horse ride through Estes Park, very pretty area as well.

Estes Park in the summer can't be beat. They have awesome miniature golf courses there and a small amusement park. You can drive through Rocky Mountain National Park which is a gorgeous drive. It's just a beautiful place.
