Finally got a response from Prof choice. Lucky me my girth is 8 months old
.
Also shouldnt they include these "special care" instructions when you buy their product???
Hi There-
Sorry to hear that you are dissatisfied with your cinch. Unfortunately these are very delicate and have a natural hide backing, which means leather. Due to the acidic enzymes in horse sweat and salt they can rot rather quickly depending on how hard you ride or the conditions of use. Washing in the washing machine or hosing it off can compound this process as this as it is a leather item and water can accelerate the breakdown in the fibers of the leather. The best way to clean this is by wiping down with a damp/dry cloth after each use. Please allow to dry thoroughly before your next ride.
If your cinch is under 6 months old we would be happy to replace this item for you with the copy of your receipt. You might want to try the Merino Wool Cinch instead as these can be hosed off and do not succumb to the natural breakdown from salt and sweat as quickly as the Shearling Cinch does.

WOw! And this is why I buy classic equine stuff they have amazing customer service. I guarantee you that they would have sent you a new one! They have sent me replacement products before. One time all I requested was a new Rowell for my spur and they replaced the whole set of spurs!!!

That is why I went with one of their girths this time! I ordered the sensor-flex which I should have ordered in the first place.

I love these cinches, but yes you have to take care of them. I wash mine and then put a couple of squirts of a liquid leather conditioner
(I like Leather CPR
) in a bucket of water and swish the cinch in it before hanging it to dry.

I use medical grade shearling wool soap.
