Which do you prefer? I have always ridden in 2", but I am thinking of ordering a new pair of slanted stirrups, so I was wondering what thoughts were from people who prefer the 3".

I bought a new Josey saddle and it had the 3 inch stirrups. I ride with my foot deep in the stirrup and did not like them at all. Just so happened that there was a problem with one stirrup and when they replaced them I asked them to get the 2 inch. If you ride with your toe in the stirrup you might like the 3 inch.

Hmm, ok. I don't like to ride with very much foot in the stirrup. I ride on the balls of my feet. I grew up riding english, so I have a phobia about too much foot being in the stirrup. I was afraid that's how I would feel if I switched to 3".

I grew up riding English as well and can't stand 3" stirrups either. In fact I told my husband this morning we need to order a spare pair of 2" roping stirrups because I hate the 3" ones on one of our saddles so much. When I can get my heels down it messes up my entire leg position and I am very unsteady.

I can't stand the 3 inch either.  Not enough foot movement.  I like to be able to get my toes down if needed and felt that my ankle couldn't rotate down enough for heels down in them.   They weren't slanted, but I don't think that would make much difference in that aspect.

Since you are use to riding in the 2' I would just order the 2" on your new pair. I really dont think you will like the 3" unless your using them for roping.

The wider the stirrup the better Imo....wider seems to offer me more stability.

I have the original barrel racing Crooked Stirrups on all my saddles. I won't ride without them.

I have been looking at various crooked and slanted styles. I am leaning toward SA Walls because there is a gripper. I cant imagine how the crooked stirrups and other similar styles would feel without a gripper or pad of some sort. Slick?

I replaced my 2" with 3" after I was rounding the second barrel and somehow my right foot slipped out hyper extending my toes up towards the shin.  The top of my foot was really sore, black & blue for weeks after that and very hard to ride without putting any weight on the ball of my foot.  I switched to the 3" and haven't had any issues since.  I have the 2" that came with my Pozzi saddle that I will sell cheap!

I thought the original Crooked Stirrups (BR) would be slippery too....so it took me awhile before I got up the courage to run in them...BUT, in years, I have only lost a stirrup once [and that was when I was running a VERY rough horse] and the awesome thing about the Crooked Stirrup is that i was able to put my foot right back in the stirrup during the run. (I attribute this to the fact that the stirrup did not flip forward or flop around like a regular lighter stirrup would do.)
*** Obviously I do not use rubber bands when I run. ;-)

Personally, I am not a fan of rubber in my stirrups....it's just a place for dirt and horse poo to stick. lol
