Last March I bought my daughter a western pleasure horse that was in a heated barn under lights. Slick and pretty. Then she came to our place where barrel horses don't get that treatment!  She was blanketed but no lights. She grew this shortish thick coat(not full winter coat) and now I can't get her to shed it!  Her teeth have been done, I have power packed her and tried a coat supplement. My vet says it probably won't shed this year. Her body will reset next year

but you guys sometimes know things vets don't!  Any ideas?  Besides body clipping. She looks awful!

I think you may have to just wait. Anything with Omega in it would be a good help though. We a new product coming out for hooves/hair & coat. Pm me if intersted and I can give you the details.

I have her on Equine Omega Complete. It's an oil. I've used it before and it will make them shine but it's doing nothing for her shedding

So just thinking because I have been around a lot of show horses these past few years. Ulcers are really big issues with them because very few ever get to live the life of a horse. No pasture time and usually stalled 24/7 other than that 30 minutes they are ridden each day. Just the  move alone could have caused her to have issues if they weren't previously an issue with her. Treat for those and she may get that coat gone.

You got her this March(2017) or last March(2016)? So she has had a weird coat for a year or just a few months?

We had a gelding go through the same thing.  Depending on where you are you may have to body shave to get through the summer.  The body will reset this following winter.  Lights and breeding really can screw with their whole normal nature.  If your feeding good and worming you will just have to wait.

We did have to shave a rodeo mare for the same reason.

We had a friend just recently that had this problem. Her horse had its winter coat, she sent it to a trainer who keeps their horses under lights and she was there a few months and completely shed out. She just brought her home a month or so ago and we got a cold rainy spell and she haired back up and it's not shedding. She had the vet out, but I'm not sure what he told her...
