So this year I'll be buying a new saddle pad for my horse and my new treeless saddle. I currently ride in a 3/4 in five star that is 30 by 30. That's a little on the longer side for his back because he has a short back and my saddle is 27 inch long so there's plenty of extra room. I'd like to get us all pad that's 28 inch long maybe 29 max. I've been thinking about SPH saddle pads and like how they have the Wither cut out relief but I think it's still odd to use out with the treeless saddle even though I seen pictures and plausible theories about them with treeless saddles. I was also thinking about buying a treeless five star that was maybe 3/4 or 1/2 an inch but I'm not quite sure. Please give me your personal stories about using saddle pads with your treeless saddles. I'm sadly on a budget and I think $200 is the most I can go besides shipping and handling. Feel free to add a certain brand of saddle pad in the poll!

Honestly you can really ride in whatever works for you and your horse. I know lots of people preach about the treeless pads but I rode with nontreeless pad for years and did not have any soreness issues.

Bumping this back up since my tax money is coming in soon

You know I've been thinking about that a lot lately! I watch Taci Bettis and Tammy Fischer and they ride in treeless, but they don't use any special pads. But I do know that Carley Richardson swears by CSI. I feel like it's not a clear cut answer.

I had to go to layered navajos. Two horses, two different BMs and both rolled with 5 stars, and other popular pads. Get zero roll with the navajos.

i'm in the same boat as you almost exactly! my saddle is 27". I got a round csi pad for my square skirt bob marshall but I think I may end up trying a round bob marshall becasuse my horse is so short backed! my friend swears by csi and she rides many different horses, so I'm trying a csi out now. otherwise she said pretty much any good contoured pad will work (5 star, best ever, etc) I know skito are popular. they custom make them for your horse so I may end up doing that. Custom is usually a good thing... unless your riding a ton of different horses.  for the SPH pads i'm not sure how they would fit with the BM rigging. I have used saddleright before and didn't care for them.

I honestly love my Saddleright pads. That's all I own, and even use them with a "regular" saddle also.
I have never had a sore back, rough hairs, or issues with my saddle moving since making the swap years ago.
They're pricey, but my first one is 5 or 6 years old and once the horses finish shedding and I wash it, it'll look like new again. My second I found on FB for sale for $150, and it's newer, so deals are out there, you just have to be ready to jump on them LOL.

I really liked my EquiPedic with my treeless.  The technology behind them is neat - Endurance riders LOVE them because they don't get hot and the insert material that they use is excellent for dispersing pressure which is essential when using a treeless.  My saddle also had a horrible crease and I never once had a horse get a sore back using the EquiPedic.

I also used a SPH - which I hated with the treeless because I felt like the leg cutout kept forcing my legs behind me. I like the Len Brown Corrector because I could shim the front on my downhill built mare.  I bought the saddle used and it came with a SaddleRight which was okay but I had a tough time keeping it from rolling.
