Location: Georgia | How do you keep your stock tanks clean? Has anyone tried the Aquasphere Pro Biodegradable product? I've used the Tractor Supply barley in burlap bag but wasn't too happy with it. I have several 300 gal concrete tanks and am looking for suggestions on ways to keep them cleaner. Thanks! |

Location: The best kept secret in TX | If they have algae already built up in them you can go to a pet store and buy Algae eaters. Goldfish keep them clean too. And no, you don't have to feed the fish. lol

| Fish did nothing for mine and the barley didn't work either. After I drain and clean mine, I add a little bleach while I fill and they seem to stay cleaner longer. |

Location: Ohio girl moved to PA | The barley bags worked best for our tanks, but we also dump and clean them every 2 weeks. Also depends how many horses are on it. Ive heard of ppl using fish but that always worried me.. Dont really want my horses drinking fish poop. lol |

I dump mine any time they start getting gross. Scrape the bottom with a shovel and wire brush the sides. We had fish last year that did nothing at all. |

Location: Displaced Iowegian | I have posted this here SO many times before. Many, many years ago I worked in the research labs of Kent Feeds.....My boss told me to use copper sulfate (Blue Vitrol) in my tanks. We have a 100 gallon tank and after cleaning and refilling with fresh water, I put ONE tablespoon in the tank and ..... NO algae ever grows. The water stays clear and I usually just dump the tank to "freshen" the water ...... This time I will give you a link where you can BUY it .......

| Will the copper sulfate powder work in automatic waterers? Or what will work in them? |

I guess not.... I have used it for over 40+ years .... 1 T. to 100 gallon tank is pretty diluted. |

Location: on the fine line between insanity and geniusness | I tried the fish thing... I had one very easily entertained gelding that stood at the tank all day chasing my poor fish. He literally looked like a kid bobbing for apples. Needless to say, my fish didn't survive and I'm still scrubbing once a week. |
