Location: Florida | So I bought a horse off of a friend last November, after starting a new job I realized I didn't have the time for him. So I asked my friend who sells horses if she would help me sell him and I'd give her commission off the sell. She told me I couldn't sell him that she was partnered on the horse and didn't tell the partner that she sold him so she hadn't paid the partner his share. She told me she would pay me back, well that was in April and we have now had a big falling out. When she hadn't paid me back after a month I told her I would just keep him, because my job had changed so I had time for him. She told me I couldn't keep him that she told the partner she was sending the horse to him. She has now sold the horse and will not pay me! I was living with her at the time so she said she would be sending me a bill for room and board, when I have text of her telling me she doesn't want me to pay rent. When I bought the horse I was not givin a bill of sale, coggins, AQHA papers or a transfer. Again she was a very close friend. Any advice is appreciated

This, everything in writing especially with "close friends". I don't think there is much you can do to get paid. |

Yup. A very good one. Print the text. Go to small claims court and have her pay the fees when she loses. |

Location: Ohio girl moved to PA | ive been here. its NOT fun and unless you take her to small claims, you wont get a dime. But without proof of any ownership on your end it really doesnt sound like its going to end in your favor. No matter what, ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS get a bill of sale and get it notorized. without it, it means nothing. i would just cut your loss and move on unfortuantly. Posession is 9/10th of the law, especially when it comes to horses. |

| You are SOL. Period. Wipe your tears. Pat yourself on the back and start saving for another horse. |

| Without the papers being transfered into your name and no bill of sale, you actually never owned the horse |

Location: Displaced Iowegian | I agree with the other posters....you just learned a very valuable "life lesson" ..... without any written documentation (Bill of Sale, Transfer papers, etc) that you have purchased the horse, you basically paid to lease the horse......move on WITHOUT that "friend" !!!! |
