What is the difference between the JD and the Swivel shank? I can't find a description of how either works to save my life. The JD looks simple enough, like a Jim Warner minus the metal part on the sides of the nose that bend back. I don't see any bendy parts on the swivel hack either, so aside from a differently shaped shank (and the obvious fact that it swivels) I don't see how much different it could work.

eta: Or even just some input on the swivel would be nice.

My suggestion is that you contact Martha- she could give you the clearest answer-

I absolutely love my JD hack. The swivel one not so much. The JD is best in the chain nose but I have a rope nose. It has a lot of feel to it and I can really get one broke at the poll with it. To me it feels NOTHING like a Jim Warner---- I had no luck with the Warner hack. I feel like it's meant for a horse that is pretty honest and doesn't need bend. Good luck

I can't confirm this 100%, but I was told once that JD makes the Wright bits. If that's true, I would assume you're looking at a very similar quality/make.

JD Morrow makes All bits for both JD Bits and for Ed and Martha Wright's Bits. I've been to his shop multiple times over the years and helped stock the store shelves way back when. Ed and Martha's Bits are still made by JD. All by hand.

Here is JDs number. 817-266-5886
Feel free to call him and ask him the mechanics on both hacks. Very nice Man. If you end up not liking it, he will exchange. But I promise if you go with his suggestion for what will work,  you won't exchange
