Veteran Posts: 143	ok ladies please help......... how long after a COMPLETE hysterectomy did you start riding??? how long before you could start lifting anything??? did you ever fully return to what you could lift before??? doctor has scared me... says never lift heavy again?? nay experiences please?

I just read the headlines Posts: 4483	My sister had to have one. It's been several years. She lifts very heavy stuff all the time. She unloads her feed and hay by herself with me pronlem. It hasn't affected her at all. She is a Type 1 diabetic and didn't have any problems healing.

Dr told me about 3-6 months to allow healing. I stared riding but no rough housing and getting jerked around by colts etc for a long while. I any heavy lifting for 3 months like feed sacks etc. Believe me your body will holler at ya I have hauled hay, feed you name it I work like a man. My husband travels a lot so it's me me me. I work horses and barrel race. Your body will tell you when enough is enough. I will say that after a hyst you will go thr major changes. I stayed tired about a month after surgery n would sit down n just nod off lol and pulling pains n abdomen. Plus lucky you your hormones will be crazy. My dr put me on hormones before surgery to adjust and stop the severe abrupt menopause after surgery. Take care of your self and please allow healing time for your body. Walking and vitamins also helped me. That was about 15 or 16 yrs ago for surgery. I'm 58 now and still at it ;0))) Edited by Yakima 2017-08-07 11:06 PM

I do anything ride, lift work etc. A few things after surgery were a little tough, one thing I suggest, watch what you eat, staying far away from anything that could cause bloating. That can be quite painful. Ask doc for meds to keep you stable. After my hysterectomy, my patience was short and temper was long. I could not help it either.

Scooters Savior Location: "Si Fi" Ville	I meant to give my hubbys perspective....he said it was like having a lit stick of dynamite with too short a fuse to throw.?? Hormones are a funny thing. But after a short bit I settled on down after a bit of hormone therapy.

Extreme Veteran Posts: 380	After a complete or even partial hysterectomy it is important to keep your pelvic floor strong by doing lots of pelvic floor exercises and core exercises because of the risk of prolapse. Yes you will be able to lift things again but know your limits and give yourself a good amount of time to heal. As for riding I would say at the very least 6 to 8 weeks. Maybe longer depending on how you feel. Just listen to your body. I had a partial uterus and tunes 2 years ago and ride and lift with no issues. My OBGYN who is also a rider said 6 to 8 weeks at least and no lifting anything over 8lbs for the same amount of time.
