I don't follow Fallon too closely but can anyone enlighten me on her warm up routine? I heard that it was very short/fast and she doesn't get on until 15 riders before she runs? Now I'm curious.

I've always been a 25-30 riders before I run. I like to warm up really good then walk around for the last 15-20 riders just to relax, keep warm, and focus. My horse needs all the run he can get so its not like I lather him up but I am quite curious as to what her warm-up routine consisted of! I dont think I necessarily need to be on that soon (my anxiety kicks in lol) becuase my horse is an all business, no nonsense type of guy.

I don't follow her but my warm up is short and sweet as well. I spend most of it handwalking. I get on and trot for maybe 10 minutes and then depending on how my horse is acting I either stand quietly somewhere or if she's having a day where she's trying to kill me I get off and don't get on until my drag.

I am curious to see what she does.... my warm-up is pretty short too..... a little bit of collected walking, 1 circle at the lope on both leads, a few counter arc figure 8s at the trot to make sure my shoulder control is there and then I walk til its my turn

My mare does NOT walk or just sit. lol She is all go go go go go once your on.. So I just get on and let her do her thang...lol And she won't cool out either, once I am done I am OFF and hand walking... In hot weather it takes her a while to cool off. lol

I was curious what her routine was too, but wasn't interested enough to join her barrel racing college.

Right.  I just know there are quite a few people on here that are in it and was hoping they'd chime in.

I usually don't get on Red until we have 20 riders to go, and I mostly just walk him around. He knows his job. I just need his muscles loose and that's it.

Shotgun I also get on about 20 riders to go, but then I spend time during the last 5 riders "waking him up" and making him have quick feet and letting him know we are about to run. He's on the lazy size so he needs that.

Mine is pretty simple too, (but since I'm hosting the barrel races I have to be creative!). I get on when I get a chance and trot some...then usually during PeeWees I trot and lope a couple circles. Then the drag before my run I trot some more. My total warm up maybe consists of 20 minutes or so, but spread out. But my horse does best with as little warm up and work as possible before her run.

I have a fear of missing my turn so I get on 20 riders before at a minimum. I do all gates both directions till the breathing and heart rate is a little up then I walk or mostly stand till the tractor starts up before my drag and walk that direction.

I had heard (but you know how rumors are) FT keeps her horses on the trailer until she saddles up then walks/trots to warm up as she heads to the arena. I have seen a few videos where it looks to me like Flo gets hyped and warms herself up so that may be why she does it that way.

Your routine for Shotgun is exactly what I do except I have to let my horse breeze somewhere to stretch those belly muscles or he gets all bound up behind the barrels lol. Took me quite sometime to figure that one out!

I feel like this would really help with one of the horses I have.
But I would NEVER be able to hear my name.

I would miss my run every time.

That type of warm up would work with Clifford, but it would be a recipe for injuries with Chance and Fred. They're older and need at least 5 minutes of walking before you can even start to trot them for a warm up. Heck half the time Chance looks like a 30 year old horse the first few steps of trotting. The rodeo miles take a toll on a horse for sure, and while he would darn sure go try to run on a 10 minute warmup, he wouldn't be able to run to his full potential. No way would I let him stand on the trailer until 15 minutes before we run, pull him out and saddle then go straight to my run at a trot.
Clifford is one that I can hop on, trot a couple minutes, lope a circle, say hey, stop him once each direction, then hand walk until we're about 4 people away, but he's naturally hot and hasn't traveled the millions of miles that Chance has.

I feel like it would work for some but definitley not for all. With such a short routine, me being a nervous Nelly, would worry about some sort of injury occuring from not being warmed up enough or to my liking.  I worry about it enough even when my horse is warm!

My mare (my daughter rides her now) is hot and the more you warm up the worse she gets. So this is us, too. My colt needs all the run he can get so we mostly just walk or trot the "looky-lou's" out of him and then walk until we are up.

I'm in Barrel Racing College, best decision I ever made. I will tell you her warm up routine.

She gets to the barrel race, parks, signs up...

And you go onto your computer, go to barrelracingcollege.com, join, and there and ONLY there will you learn her warmup routine ;)
