| I got a used saddle and it's got a waxy dirt covering it. And it's embedded in the tooling. I scrubbed forever on the backside of the fenders and got that off. Had to resort to baking soda scrubbing! I scrubbed the shorts but it's still so stuck way down in the tooling. Any ideas?
Toothbrush isn't enough. Surprising that there aren't too many cracks. The leather isn't that bad, a little dry. I'm using bee batural and/or leather therapy cleaners and conditioners

Location: The best kept secret in TX | Liquid glycerin saddle soap and a hard tooth brush or leather cleaning brush. The liquid glycerin will get it. Use skidmore's afterward to replenish moisture. Both products will not darken the saddle any darker than the original oil that was used on the saddle. (i've also gotten a new body brush from the tack store that was shoter bristled and very stiff and used that with liquid glycerin to really get into the crevices of the leather...)

| Glycerin is a sealant, not a soap. The Bee natural stuff will also be sealing stuff and not helping your cause.
A nice warm dilution of Dawn dish soap (good enough for the ducks), and a soft brush will help your cause immensely.
Then oil the snot out of it with pure neatsfoot, then a layer of glycerin to seal it. Wahlah. |

Location: Way up North | Get some sheep wool/shearling, it works way better than a tooth brush to get in the cracks and won't scratch up the leather. I use the Bee Natural saddle oil with added protection after but to clean I like the Bick 1 Leather cleaner. What you are using should still work, just going to take a lot of elbow grease. Also, don't be afraid to get it pretty wet (besides rough out), it takes a fair amount of water and soap and a lot of scrubbing to get all the build up off saddle especilly if it is a heavy oil type of leather. |

| I just cleaned a saddle that was really nasty. Not mine....it was an old used one I bought recently. I think someone put that spray leather shine stuff on it...and then never ever cleaned the saddle again! lol
I had to use a lot of Dawn dish soap (the blue stuff), a wash cloth and a soft toothbrush to finally get the thing clean again. I literally would scrub and wash and scrub and wash and let the dish soap soak into the crud on the saddle to get it to dissolve the grease. By far the dirtyest saddle I have ever cleaned. |
