While we were stopped and eating, I let the bars down on my trailer windows so the horses could relax and look around.  I never dreamed this is what I would come out to!

I had a horse do this many years ago loading into a stock trailer. It's amazing how fast it healed up.

So sorry...sending prayers for healing.

If I hauled with someone who did this I always insisted they leave my horse's bars up... They always thought I was mean or cranky... I was always afraid this very thing would happen....  I am so very sorry this happened to you and your horse.
I haul with a helmet on my horse because he scares me to much popping his head up when he loads and unloads.
Maybe I will send you bubble wrap along with my hug.

I can almost guarantee someone came by to 'pet the pretty horse' and the horse jerked up/back and that is how he did that number on his head.

I wondered that too because he hates his head touched!

OH MY!!!!  i normally let my boys stick their heads out while were stopped/getting fuel. but never while driving, i HATE when i see horses with their heads out going down the road.  No longer will i be allowing mine to do that. Its not worth the risk. Prayers for a speedy recovery for your baby!!!

I had one do that on the overhead bow inside a stock trailer. Hubby was made and forbid me to call a vet but when we got to the rodeo hours later, I found a vet to stitch him up. All the vet had was umbilical tape (which is very thick) and it healed very well without much of a scar. I used a handkerchief folded in a triangle and secured to his halter, to keep it clean....folks were calling him Willie Nelson, lol. His did not go quite so low though, peeled his forelock back.

Sorry this happened to your horse. Logic dictates that he did this putting his head OUT rather than jerking it back in....look at the direction of the tear. Just an observation.

Saw one at the vet like that. The lady leaves her stall doors open all day and assumed the horse somehow hit it on the top of the stall door. Not good

You will be suprised at how well it heals.  One of mine peeled the middle of his forhead down 4th of July night.  Found it the next morning when he came in from the pasture.  Today there is not even a scar on his face.
