I suspect my colt has a sole bruise. He has been barefoot his whole life and has a nice, hard, foot. No chipping etc. He has always been a little tender on hard ground/gravel and I use rickens when I haul just to help depending on where I have to park. Rode him Sunday and he was fine, but yesterday when I got home he was pretty darn gimpy on LF foot. I picked it to make sure it was clean and it was, no pulse that I could feel, so I packed it in Magic cushion. He is appendix so I think his sole might look hard on the outside but might not be real thick just from genetics. I plan to have him shod this weekend. How long " SHould" it take to see results if indeed it is a bruise? Its possibly an abscess but my experience with those has been that they pretty much go 3 legged dead lame, which he is not. Thanks!

If a bruise it can take up to 6 months if the bone is effected. I always apply magic cushion on, if it isn't better by day 3 then I discuss with my vet about starting ixopriene. I had one who was acting like an abscess for 2 weeks soaking poulticing to no avail, gave her isoxiptine for 3 days she was sound and never had any more issues.

Had a horse get a stone bruise while I was riding her applied magic cushion the next day she was sound.

Thanks so much! This is day 2 with magic cushion. Will Re apply today and see if better by tomorrow. I have Isox on hand if needed!

Not quite the same but I had a horse overstride running in his field (he slid to a stop at a gate) and he bruised his heel so bad he was lame for 3 months. I took him to the vet not long after he did it and had x rays done To be sure nothing was broken. Nope, just a very bad bruise. First month I kept it wrapped a lot because he could hardly walk. After that he got around okay and was just sore if he trotted. But it took a long time for him to not be sore.

Mine is probably a 3 out of 5 lame. He is not dead lame but gimpy at walk and trot. Doesnt like to turn to right and it's his left foot. He pivots on it a little better. Vet gave me ok to start isoxuprine. He very well could have forged on his heel playing around. X-rays Friday.
