Bring stall mats or rent them, concrete floor stalls. A hotel close by that I stayed at before the trailer was the Quality Inn. It was the next exit up towards. Same exit as walmart, etc. I heard horror stories about thost hotel (Holiday In) but i donb't know if those got remedied and may be an option for you. There is another hotel on the backside of the fasirgrounds across the highway. Can't remember the name at all.

Think about renting a golf cart. We have a cricket and bring it every time. It's a life saver for us.

Do you have any specific questions? I am trying to think of stuff off the top of my head and am drawing a blank. LOL

Rent stall mats as these are concrete stalls. Cost is $99.00 for the week. They will install and remove them. Once the draw and stall assignments are posted, you can either call or email your stall number and they will take care of it. Well worth the cost as it's a long week on concrete. http://www.stallmatrentals.com/order?get=get_inv_table&location=PER...

Consider using the pelleted shavings rather than the compressed. You will need to bring at least 6 bags to cover your stall adequately ($5.99/bag at any Tractor Supply or farm supply store). Cut a large cross in the bag and add a bucket of water. The shavings swell and spread evenly. Some much easier to sift droppings and urine clumps up. You won't need to buy additional shavings while you are there. I usually make sure it is pretty deep where my horse is standing at hay bag/feed bucket. Your horse(s) will appreciate these shavings. Bring a fan to hang as it can be hot. If I remember correctly, each stall has its own electrical outlet, but bring an extension cord just in case and bungee cords to hang your fan. Water hoses are not provided. Sometimes someone will leave a hose at the spigot all week, sometimes not. I brought one just in case. Of course, a muck bucket and fork.

If you are staying in a hotel, you will most likely be parking your trailer in the grassy area West of the RV parking spots (depending on what day you arrive- this space will fill up quickly). Might want to consider bringing a radio so you can tune into the live broadcast. Depending on where you park, getting to and from the arena can take a while. A golf cart rental is nice too if you can afford it. If you've ever been to a big NBHA show, the format is the same (they run about 50 riders an hour). The first warm up arena closest to the holding pens has a large screen TV mounted up high so you can see the action live. There are several covered warm up arenas with lights which is nice when it's hot out or raining. Also, a cafe/restaurant right next to the arena with TV. Food was good and reasonable priced. Nice exhibit hall/trade center with plenty of vendors of saddles/tack, clothes/hats, feed/hay, supplements, jewelry, etc.

If you are bringing friends/non-riders, they have persons stationed at tables at each entrance to the main arena and check arm bands. There is a cost associated with the arm bands. Riders are also supposed to wear their arm bands. Bring large clothes/safety pins as they provide back numbers. Most people just pin to their saddle pad.

It's really a fun week. Good luck in your travels!

The Open world is in Perry GA, still correct?

I was just there for youth worlds, and I can tell you what I did.

Definitely get stall mats. and if you already have them or can afford them, pack enough for two layers. My mare NEVER stocks up. And she stocked up in 2 days. Walked her 3 times/day and iced her legs to keep them down.

I stayed in the Best Western just across the street. It was behind the cracker barrel. Best decision I ever made. We were in and out constantly and hardly stayed in the room, but it was clean, adequate, and the people were nice. Fridge was good, a/c was cold, that was all we needed. I did book mine through hotels.com because at the time I booked they were cheaper than the hotel. However, when I got there, we ended up needing to leave a day early, and the hotel will NOT talk to you if you have to make any changes to your reservation, you have to go through whoever the third party is. Hotels.com was very easy to work with, just a heads up if you go that route, don't even try the hotel. But the hotel also supposedly said, they would have given me a better rate if I had called...Well, hindsight...

Dont know if/why open/youth world would be different, but there was MINIMAL onsite food, and what was there, was absolutely disgusting and overpriced. The first day there, I think I paid $8 for 1 hot dog. That was cold. And the vendor didn't even have proper condiments (mustard/ketchup) They do have a vendor there that sells tea, and you buy a souvenir cup and pay about 1/2 the price for refills all week long. If you like sweet tea.

Definitely have a golf cart or bicycle.

We have a law trailer but went to youth world this past July for a few days so we stayed in a hotel. The is one right across from the area by a gas station. I'm not positive but I think it was Quality Inn. DO NOT stay there. It was absolutely disgusting. And the front desk worker told us it was not a safe place especially after dark. There is one close to Cracker Barrel that I've been told is ok. There is a full restaurant there on the fair grounds it is pricey. But everything is always good.

Defiantly pay the $99 for stall mats. I've never rented a golf cart at any of the world shows and I've been going since 2007. I've never seen the point because there expensive and you can drive your truck every where.

Depending on the weather you may need fans during the day and blankets at night. I've been where I needed fans the whole time and times I've needed blankets the whole time. So be prepared for that.

Don't skip out on Trick or Trot. It's a blast even if you don't participate

I can't stand the fact that I'm having to miss this year especially with t being the 25th anniversary but with loosing my job and getting married this winter it just wasn't in the budget.

This isn't the Quality Inn that I stayed at. I stayed at the one the next exit down from the arena. Pool, Hot Tub, and breakfast were great. Rooms were clean, fridge, ac everything was great. I had the points and our stay there (2 or 3 times) was good every time. I had heard about a hotel near the arena that was horrible though. I wish I could remember the name now.

Where is the Rodeway Hotel? If I were you I would check in to the one next to Cracker Barrel (as someone suggested above) and the other that was suggested as well since they seem closer and they have good reviews from members here!

I have had to use fans every year that I have went. Last year, in fact, I wore a tank top EVERY day. There was a couple of nights that I did need a sweatshirt, so be prepared for anything.

Trick or Trot is completely awesome. Usually on Thursday night. Visit the vendor area a few times. It seems that the vendors don't ALL get there until about the third day. It doesn't fill up the building but there might be more there this year becasue of the 25th anniversary.

Bring a manure cart or something of the sort to help with your stall cleaning. I don't like the fact that they prebed your stall with three bags of shavings. I am a pellet person and would prefer to use those, and then use the shavings here and there through out the week. To each there own. I usually will bring my broom up too and keep the aisle way cleaned out in front of our stalls.

There is a feed and supply store right across the road from the fairground's entry. They carry all kinds of things (shavings etc) if you are in a pinch and need something quick. You can also call them and reserve your shavings if you feel more confortable doing that. Tractor Supply is about 10 miles up the road (back towards Atlanta). There is a lot that way actually.

The next exit up (1 mile) there is WalMart, Red Lobster, awesome Mexican place, Some fast food places, etc.

If you need to do laundry, there is a laundry mat within 2 miles of the arena. Quality Inn has a small laundry area if you stay there.

I have always stayed way to busy on the grounds to get out much, other than to grab some groceries, or whatever. Not sure if there is any other touristy type stuff to do in the area.

We have a cricket cart and life is so much more simple. You can drive a truck everywhere but it can get tight parking and the carts can go right up to the doors, etc.

I agree about the food on the grounds. I tried to eat in their little restaraunt/food vendor ONE time. Over priced and not fresh/good. I got a salad and it was wilted. We left and I went to McDonald's, where the salad was much better. If you can beleive that. When I went years ago, my mom and I would pack a cooler and eat lunch and snack from it to save gas going back and forth to the hotel or food places.

Now we have a living quarters trailer so I don't worry about food.
