Here lately I have been having intermintent knee pain.  One day I can't hardly walk and then other days I'm perfectly fine.   I can't pinpoint the actual spot that it hurts when rubbing it.
Does anyone have experience with longitudinal meniscus tears?
I hate to go to the doc for this, since my mom went and it didn't fix it after surgery.  But I think hers was an oblique tear based on what the doc said. They supposedly cleaned up her rough edges to keep it from locking up.  So much for that.

I feel for you. I had an unsuccessful knee surgery. I would recommend getting an MRI, that way you know what you're dealing with. In my situation, I think I could've avoided surgery had I went straight to physical therapy. (I had a dislocated knee cap that wouldn't stay put and it roughed up everything around it.)

Chronic pain is no fun. If you skip the doc, see you can get some PT scheduled, although you may need a referral.

I had a torn meniscus cleaned up about a year ago. My knee did not hurt constantly -- it just began "giving way" on me and when it did that it DID hurt -- like a knife stab. Doctor cleaned it up with arthro and I've been good; however, it still has a little issue now and then -- which from what I understand is pretty normal. I wear a stretchy compression brace when I am going to be up and about and really busy. Has not affected my riding nor does it ever bother me when I ride. An MRI is really the only way to diagnose the exact issue....

Try some yoga for a bit. I've struggled with knee pain for years despite dr's telling me nothing is wrong. The only thing we can figure is because I ride my inner thighs are mor developed and the ligaments etc want to pull my kneecap over, rubs on cartilage, owie. At its worse it would give way going down stairs and I could not do a lunge motion with that leg in the back.

I took some time off from my normal workouts and just did yoga for about a month. Felt better than ever when I went back to working out and for the first time in years I could do a lunge with no pain!!!

I have to keep everything nice and stretched out, now that I've been using a yoga app for about 6 months I know enough to do a 10-15 minute stretching session without it, focusing on my hamstrings and inner thighs the most.

Might not work at all, especially if you do have a tear, but if your not wanting to go right to a Dr it might be worth a try too.

i have a torn meniscus and they wanted to do surgery however it did not hurt very bad and i had a friend have hers cleaned and and was in worse shape after the surgery. i started going to a natrualpath. she put me on fish oil, cur cumin, collagen, you could hear my knees grind at least 10 foot away, now they are quiet very little pain. these are cheap, try this first always do other stuff later. i did twist mine yesturday and is very swollen called her and she upped some of my suppliments see where it goes.

I had mine done back in 2009 and it made it worse. I'm now bone on bone but I'm not going to get my knee replaced. Ortho Relief Institute did HA injections and they worked but MFR therapy has kept me pain free without injections for almost 2 years.
