Sorta new here but I have a 26 yr old pony who has foundered twice she has been in our family since she was two. However what everyone is telling you is true. Cut out the alfalfa hay. limit time on fresh grass. really watch it in the spring. When mine foundered it was in the fall after a few days of rain and warm weather so whenever it does that I keep her up for a few days. You just have to be aware of your pasture and what is growing in it. Mixed grass hay is best, coastal can sometimes be high in protein. I also soak her hay for 20 to 30 mins before feeding it helps get the sugars out it. She gets 1 small muck bucket of hay 2x a day. And she does have a grazing muzzle if she is out a lot, unfortunately, I'm not able to dry lot her. And I feed a low starch feed maybe a 1/2 cup 2xs a day. And a good shoer is your friend, trimmed and roll the toes. hth

My little mini gets about 3/4 to 1 cup of feed made for poney's and easy keeper horses and pssm and any other problems they may have. Its Triple Crown Lite, I put my gelding on it that grass flounder hes Insulin Resistant, best thing I ever did.. Limited pasture for the both and like everyone says a good farrier is your best friend.
