Frodo - 2017-06-30 2:20 PM Look for  natural ways to increase bone density.  The various drugs doctors prescribe can have dangerous side effects.  Google them and see for yourself.  That includes Prolia.

Exercise, calcium heavy diet, and natural supplements.....stay away from sugary drinks.

I know the side effects of Prolia. After doing natural and seeing an Endocrinologist for 4 years and trying natural I made my choice to use it. With hashimotos I am on a strict diet. I take no drugs for it because once you start thyroid drugs they are hard to get off. My autoimmune numbers are down and I am able to keep myself in a size 8 pant by seeing a nutritionist.

Thanks for pointing that out. But for me it is the way to go.

("my parathyroid is putting too much calcium in my blood".).
many times this is caused by LOW Vitamin D levels. once your vitamin D levels become normal your calcium in the blood will go back to normal.... :) There is much more science to this.....

As someone stated the thyroid and parathyroid are master glands that regulate hormones, cholesterol levels and much more.

Also Boron is wonderful to assist with bone density. Here a a great ionic form of boron. Please google Boron and learn about how great it is for our bones.
https://www.amazon.com/Trace-Minerals-Liquid-Ionic-Boron/dp/B001ECXJ...

I would also look in to making comfrey root and leaf tea, Comfry is called Bone Knit for a reason. :)

There is also wonderful Homeopathy look into getting "Silicea"
The homeopathic remedy for Comfry is called "Symphytum Officinale"
This company is one of the best in the USA, you can also order from companies in the UK..

I am a nutritionist that specializes in women's health...
Hope this helps you a little.... :)

When I was in my bad horse accident in 2011, I broke 6 bones. I wa 39 years old when that happened. Come to find out, I had no idea I had osteoporosis due to malfunctioning parathyroid glands. I always had "slightly elevated" calcium levels in my blood work. For 20 years, numerous docs said don't worry about it.

Unfortunately, I had to have all but one tiny piece of my parathyroid glands removed in 2012 once I got healed from the wreck. That little piece is now implanted in my arm and my calcium levels have been normal since.

I did not want to take any of the bisphosphonate drugs they recommend so, I've been on a strict regiment of calcium, magesium, k1, k2 and my bone density has much improved. Not as dense as the docs would like but, no longer osteoporosis levels. I've considered adding boron but, I had "heard" it could potentially be hard on your kidneys. I need to do more research to see if that's true.

I seem to have an immune system that does the same calcium leaching from bones into the blood. Also a huge tendency for kidney stones becuase of that. I finally found an endocrinologist that had a blood test to look for the tendency for kidney stones because of the high calcium in the blood. He added potassium citrate to the mix with the increased vit D of course. been on it for about 8 months. so far so good lol. I also got bucked off here about two months ago and according to my dexascan should have broken every bone in my body, but nope. not a one.  Things that make you go hmmmmm.   Just fyi I also have a very low white cell count that so far seems benign. Had it all my life. They call it Leukopenia. Check once a year to make sure it does not morph into the bad stuff. Dont know if its relevant but you never know what little puzzle piece might fit.

I have not read all the post but are you seeing an endocrinologist? I do not think an internist is the best route. I would follow the doctor's instructions. My sister in law had an endocrine problem. She ended up going to Houston to a specialist and found she had a tumor on her pituatary. Had surgery then they killed her thyroid. She is on synthetic hormones and has been for about 20 years. I think once you get the parathyroid fixed everything else should fall into place

I am 67 years old. I don't have osteoparosis, I have osteopenia which is thinning of the bones, which is not quite as sever but very concering.  I was diagnosed 2 years ago and put on Fosomax which you can take a weekly dose or a monthly dose.   My doctor upped my D3 to 5000 iu a day, my calcium is 1200 iu a day and I take magnisium.  He also told me to do weight bearing exercises on my lower body.  Last Oct. I joined a gym which I have never set foot in a gym in my life until then.  I now lift weights for my upper and lower body and I LOVE IT !!   I don't want to bulk up but just firm and tone.  I figured I would be the oldest person in the gym but I was surprised to see that 30% of the people in there are over 50 years old. Some are even in their 80's and 90's.  Anyway, I just had my 2 year check up of my bone dexaty and I have a 3% increase in bone mass in my hips and spine.  I am thrilled.  So it can be reversed.   Good luck to you.  It might take a life style change but we can do it.

Thank you so much for your post! This is helpful info. I checked out the Boron you recommended and then search for Comfrey tea....is there a particular brand you would recommend for that too?

There are always so many choices of products and then you just never know which one is "real" and which one is not.

They want me to do those too.  Especially since I broke both arms at once in April.  They want me to do Fortero.  I have a few months to decide.  I have not made up my mind yet.

Let me know how they work for you.  This sucks I know................

streakysox - 2017-06-29 5:21 PM I take alondronate and 1200 mg of calcium. Martha Josey was taking a medicine that was an injection. I cannot remember the name but the last syllable was clast. I will think of it in a little while. You do not want to take that. It caused her to have to have a hip replacement.
My hip hurts so bad I can't sleep already.im not on anything yet because my parathyroid is putting tooo m
uch calcium in my blood.i have a nuclear test on that next week.

Hip pain is not a sign of osteoporosis. Actually there are not signs or symptoms, that is why they recommend that you have a bone density test.
