What the quality on Lakota trailers? Are they holding up to the miles ? Are they durable ? Is bighorn the top quality of a Lakota and then charger then colt ? Any opinions on them would be great thanks :)

We bought a 2017 last April and we have been nothing but completely satisfied with it! We purchased a 3H charger with a 6ft slide out and we love it! It's very well made, the hinges are very durable, it's easy to pull, and was very affordable. Not everyone can afford $50-75K trailers. We had one small issue with the shower head. It got a hairline crack in it over the winter (we live in ND) and when I called Lakota, they sent me a new one and I had it within 2 days. We purchased our trailer from Elisa in Elk Mound, WI from Goodrich Trailer Sales. We were in and out of there within 2 hours. Super easy to work with! Highly recommend them!

My uncle hasn’t had 2 or 3 of them and they have held up very well, he’s a stickler on fabrication and safety

I had one that I loved!  It was a 2012 and when I traded it in I was told they had upgraded on how they were built since I had mine.  I loved the space...Big Horn with the big slide, but with the length it apparently tweaked / twisted the frame and I was never able to open the front escape door.  I also had the stainless nose piece pop loose from the bolts / rivets shearing off.  I will say that the company was fantastic to work with and promptly took care of any issues.

?I was told when I purchased mine that if I was going to go hard (rodeo miles) then I should buy something else.  I really don't think I drove that many miles (I used it as an RV cause I wasn't riding).
I liked everything about my trailer, but how it held up over a couple years.  Then again if they strengthened their structure they might be fine now.

So...I own one...I won’t own another. Yes if you go back and search old threads you’ll see me saying I really like mine - I recant that statement.

My good friend has owned 2. She won’t own another.

Mine is a 2017 that I bought brand new in 2016. Had to have the gasket on the shower fixed after the first time I used it, they didn’t install it properly and it leaked all over the floor. Had to have my fridge door fixed, the must have picked it up by the door to install it because hinges were bent and it wouldn’t open smoothly and the latch kept breaking. Then my drop downs started not wanting to close - I put up with that for a little while because we could make it work, but finally hauled it an hour and 15 min to the dealer a couple of weeks ago to get it fixed. Now this weekend my rear load lights no longer work, we have either a bad switch or a loose connection. It hauls nice and with just me or myself and my husband using it the LQ has held up fine. We are weekend warrior jackpot/rodeo people, it gets hauled the hardest during July but probably averages out to being used every weekend April-Sept.

Now for my friend. She had one she bought new off the lot, 4H with like a 15’ shortwall and a slide, I’m thinking it was a 2015? She had no issues with that one. When her daughter graduated she decided to downsize and ordered a 3H with a 9’ shortwall with a slide.

Talk about a nightmare. Several things were wired backwards on it, her drop down windows also didn’t close and one actually fell and split her head open. She has had her jack replaced once and now the new one is broken. Her refridgerator doesnt work. I am positive I am missing something pretty serious too. She’s terrified she’s going to put the slide out at a jackpot and it’s not going to go back in at this point.

I personally think they have gotten so popular that quality control has gone out the window.

I hope my issues continue to be minor, but we are keeping our eyes open for the right trailer layout in a higher end brand before ours does have something catastrophic break.

I don't own one personally but did some research when I was considering one. I talked to 2 that own them and they said if you use them all the time (the LQ) they do not hold up. If only used occaisionally then usually no issues.

We own a 2016 3 horse, 9’ short wall Charger edition. It’s our first living quarters, so as I’ve said in the past, I can’t very well compare them to other trailers. But, our experience with them has been great overall. Unfortunately, the manufacturer had put the junk Chinese tires on them, and we didn’t know any better. We had two blowouts, one on each side, which tore the trailer up a bit. But insurance was good about fixing it. The tire manufacturer wouldn’t cover anything, of course.

I contacted Lakota and they split the cost of New Goodyear Wrangler tires with us, as well as sent two new fenders and fender gussets. They also sent us a new “porch” light, as ours quit working early on. Unfortunately, it quit working again, so it’s likely a wiring issue. Aside from that, the Dometic toilet seems to freeze and break the little plastic component inside the lever anytime we hit 32. No matter how well we winterize, blow out the lines, pump anti freeze thru; it still freezes and then the toilet lever leaks. But I feel that’s more the toilet manufacturer and not the trailer itself.

We have been very happy with it, and it’s quality. We don’t haul extensively. Usually three to four weekends a month between races and just hauling places. It’s a little tight for hubs, myself, and our 9 year old for more than one night. But everything has worked well and is holding up better than I expected. The finishes are nice, and we were able to add some backsplash and different fixtures to appease my taste.

I also know several people with Larger Lakotas then ours and they haven’t had bad experiences either.

THis is why I ALWAYS run a small space heater in my trailer and open up all the cabinet doors where the water lines are located for cold nights/days. Warm air circulates and never had a freezing issue.

I have always been under the impression that they weren't good quality. Then I walked through one at a show...I was really unimpressed when I pushed on the wall in the horse compartment and it moved very easily.

There are trailers in every price category and for every budget. They are not all created the same. When my daughters had a 4star dealership in California, we recommended that people who were going to seriously haul would be better off buying a used premium trailer than a new second or third tier quality one. I would much rather buy a well cared for used 4Star, Platinum, Hart, Bloomer or Elite (not necessarily in that order) than take a step down to get a brand new one that might not be as well made, and needs to be sorted out. I personally would put Lakota in that second category. Your results may vary.
