Mare going off feed while in heat...

Anyone else have one that does this? I’ve owned this mare for just under a month. Previous owners had all mares so they said she was so quiet that they never even knew when she was in heat half the time. And I totally believe that because she’s normally very quiet and sweet, and even though she’s in heat now her attitude is still good. But I have 3 geldings and she’s the only mare and now that she’s in heat she’s either not eating any grain/hay or she’ll only eat about half of it. She’s not skinny at all but I definitely don’t want to worry that she’s going to do this every time. I recently started her on mare magic, so I’m hoping that might work well for her. Just curious if anyone else has dealt with one that goes off their feed like this and what worked well for them. Thanks guys!!

My mare does this as well. Not every cycle but about 75%. She will always eat her oats and herbs but sometimes not as fast but she cuts way back on hay consumption during 2-3 days of her cycle... usually it is because she is too busy wondering where her BF is at to eat. I added mare magic about 2-3 months ago and I do think it has helped settle her down and what I read on raspberry leaves it can help make her more comfortable during her cycle.. I know how I feel during that time of the month and I don’t always feel like eating either. As long as she comes out of it and returns to normal every time I feel like there isn’t much to do. :/

Oh yea. Mine does this to!! Well i should say she USED to. Mine paces when in heat and rubs the fence. I tried all the herbal junk and it was a waste of money. My vet had me start her on regumate 2 years ago and that has been my expensive miracle! Lol she has been on it every single day for 2 years. She does comes In heat just as bad in winter as any other time so she stays on it 365 days a year and she is sooooo much happier!!!!’ She would stop eating her grain for a week and just pick at her hay. I also found giving ulcerguard for few days a month really helps to. Mine still has short cycles even on regumate but no bumping and rubbing. Lol
