When my horse wants to get away from me she drops her head and pulls mostly to get back to her buddy horse. But she will do it at the first barrel. Do you think a tie down would help ? She's ridden in a low port bit with a slight gag. I've thought about trying chlorpromazine or ace just to take that anxiety off.

My best suggestion is to pull the horse off barrels and start with basics and I mean basics. Get the video ROUND PENNING FOR RESPECT.

I would not use any sort of sedation on your horse if you plan on riding it. Horses can have adverse reactions, even if you’ve used it before and they’ve been fine. I agree with streakysox, I would break it down and go back to basics to work through any issues, instead of using drugs to mask the problem.

No, a tie down would not help.

No, ace would not help.

Ultimately, you have a training problem with your horse. Go back to the basics, fix the training problem, and then the behavior will go away.

If you don't know where to start, find a trainer in your area to help you and take lessons from. It starts with good ground work.
