I have a 3yr old filly that is a GGD of Seattle Slew and she is so smart and athletic.  She isn't your typical TB.  She looks more quarter and is so level headed and picks up on everything exremely quick.
Has anyone ever had any dealings with Seattle Slew babies and does anyone know of any that have been trained for barrels?

By the time you get to GGD, the genetics are pretty diluted. But sounds like from what you describe you have a colt with a good mind and speed!!! If she learns as quick as you say there is no reason she can't be a nice barrel horse!

Years ago, we had a Seattle Slew grandson on the top side of his dam . Plus he was by Coup De Kas. He was Appendix of course, but had a ton of TB in him. He looked much more QH than our full QHs! He was super smart, consistent and a great barrelhorse...and great looking to boot.

Thanks guys!! I am super excited about her.  She just got started under western saddle. She had 7 outs on track and 4 show earned money but her owner couldnt afford to keep paying trainer so decided to give her a second career instead of keeping her on the track.  When i got her I had her feet and teeth done, gave her time to settle in and I have ridden her 4xs and she is already loping nice correct circles, backs at ease, breaking at the poll and moving off leg pressure.  Im gonna try and post a pic of her.

As stated already, the genetics that far back don't make a huge difference. I ran a mare that had slew in her lines, she was fantastic!! My main guy now is a full tb also (no slew though) And he's by far my mount of choice. Level headed, walks in and out flat footed, but can go through a pattern like nobody's business! I get told a lot that I have a very large qh haha =] Good luck with her! Can't wait to see pics <3

Eons ago (1983) the ranch I was managing had a Slew son come in for training.  At 16 months old he dwarfed the other 16-20 month olds.  He was surely the most awsome TB I'd ever seen at that time.  I think he ended up in the show jumping arena after a few ok starts on the track.

I'm not sure but his sons and daughters and even grand get are excellent hunter under saddle producers. Love seeing Slews on the female family side.

I had a ggd of Seattle Slew on the top side and DFC.. purchased her at 9.   She knew the barrel pattern, but hadn't been raced that much.   I kept her till she was 18, retired myself from barrels and I thought her, but she had so much left to give.  We got into the 2d times but never fast enough to place.  So I would say she was a solid 3d horse at that time.  Sold her and the lady place in 2d a few times, but I would still say she was a 3d horse.  For her breeding and being off the track I really thought she would have the fire for 1d times.  The people I bought her from sold her because of the same reasoning.  But I loved the DFC/SS lines.

Slew himself was a SOB, but he threw athletic, better minded than him individuals. If you like her and think she's athletic , that's 1/2 the battle - go for it.

There is a Seattle Slew that stands in MT at Aus Ranch...they specialize in speed bred paints.  This is a yearling by him.  He is gorgeous!!
