The Appendix Association has their own registry! If the dam is not registered (but can or should be) you can still register with the appendix program. Even if one of the parents in unknown, they have a hardship registration as well. Appendix association is simply a baby from parents tb x qh. I have registered quite a few babies with the appendix association, and they will register any qhXtb with the "body type" of such. They have a lot of info on their website on how to register =]

As far as I know, they have to be registered with the Appendix association first. Then after their 2 year old year, if they earn their ROM and pass a conformation inspection, they have the chance to pass in to AQHA-Appendix. This article explains the process a bit more: https://www.aqha.com/daily/breeding/2016/breeding-archive/the-ailing...

I breed a TB mare to a AQHA stud and just had to DNA the mare and send a copy of her papers to register the baby with AQHA appendix papers no waiting and no problems. She already had a baby this way before with no problem that time either. That was about 15 years ago but still do not think it is much of a problem there are to many Appendix horses out their for it to be that hard. I never even called AQHA just looked everything up online requested DNA kits filled out forms and sent everything back.

I had to register my TB mare with the AQHA so I can register the foal when it's born this spring. I had to email copies her Jockey Club papers and a signed letter stating I gave the JC permission to release her DNA test results to the AQHA, plus 4 pictures (each side, front and back), then I had to pay the membership fee, and the fee to register her. They sent me the paperwork so I could get her 5 panel tested, and that was that. It was really pretty easy.

Rachel at the AQHA is who I dealt with, she is a friend of a close friend, and she was absolutely wonderful to work with! I can PM you her email, if you'd like.

1. The TB mare has to be registered with the Jockey Club.
2. She then has to be "recorded" with AQHA with a DNA on file.
3. The AQHA stallion who is the sire has to have a stallion report filed which has the mare listed with breeding dates the year the foal was conceived.
4. You will have to have a breeders certificate signed by the owner of the stallion and mare at the time of breeding and the owner of the mare when she foaled. All three. They may or may not be the same person or multiple people.
5. You then send the completed breeders certificate to AQHA with registration fees and membership fees if you aren't already a member.

OREGONBR and NJBBH are entirely correct ...
but this can be overwhelming to a first time experience ..

Just print a registration certificate from AQHA site and fill it out as completely
as possible and send it in to AQHA with the fees on the registration papers.
This also locks in the current fees to register your foal.

When AQHA starts processing they will itemize the items they need to complete the
foals registration and send you letters with instructions for you to follow .. including
the amount owed for each item.

Answer the letters with whatever info they request
in a timely manner and don't leave the matter hanging while you get even more
confused as you talk to various people.

This is the simple way to follow the instructions that OregonBR gave in her post.

STAY CALM AND CARRY ON ... lol

FYI:
AQHA, buyers, shows nor anyone else recognizes these backyard
associations such as the appendix registration mentioned above ...
it is just a format to make an owner of a grade horse feel better ...
but means nothing to buyers or other associations.

To get your foal registered with an AQHA APPENDIX registration DOES NOT
require you to have any other type of registration.

AQHA uses the appendix notation so a buyer will know there was a TB
cross to a registered QH somewhere in the horses pedigree that did not
earn a ROM to become fully registered as a QH. If you earn a ROM at
AQHA events .. your foal can get a full blown QH registration .. you have
to fill out a form and pay a fee to make this happen ..
