After an O ring I usually go to a draw gag or Carol Goosetree bit, depending on the horse or I might do both to see what the horse prefers. After those I go into a Jr Cowhorse type of bit and start with a leather curb, then go from leather to rope, then chain last. All depends on what the horse likes and what fits with your hands. Usually after a couple of months or years going through this process I can either keep my horse in a Jr Cowhorse or they might need a little more help when they're going fast on the pattern. Usually I'll keep whatever mouthpiece that particular horse likes from the Jr Cowhorse but I'll switch to a bit with a little more purchase and shank, like a Sherry Cervi short shank.
