My mare was diagnosed with OA in both hocks this fall. Vet did not want to inject right now. She had 2 options IRAP (which was quite pricey) or 2 treatments of shockwave therapy. I chose the shockwave Therapy. She is doing good and I can tell a huge difference but wondered what supplement was out there that helps with this to keep her happy, healthy and sound to continue running. Would like feedback from those who have or had this issue and what worked for them! Thanks!

I'm a Cur-Ost fan.  The anti-inflammatory herbs in this blend manage the pain and inflammation daily to slow down the rate at with the OA progresses.   https://nouvelleresearch.com/index.php/articles/390-joint-dysfunction-are-injections-the-only-solution

Why did the vet want shockwave? What does it exactly do and does the horse have to go back again for another round to keep her feeling good?

Recently shockwave Therapy has been proven to help horses with OA. There are articles about it. Trust me, I researched. Basically what the treatment does is it tricks the body into thinking it is injured in the area treatment is done and focuses on healing that area. There is a more scientific way of explaining it.. this is just the gummed down version. For hocks it requires 2 treatments, 2 weeks apart and takes 21 days after treatment to get full effects, but just like joint injections this only last for about 6 months until it needs to be done again as there is no cure for OA. Proper supplements can help prolong the times between treatment and that is why I am looking for a good supplement for her. My vet has did this treatment on her personal dressage horse and has seen significant improvement in him. The other option IRAP injection last about a year but is quite expensive to do and requires the horse to stay at vet while being done for a couple of days. So I opted for shockwave first.

I second the CJ---my oldest is 39 and he moves like a much much younger horse! All 5 of ours are on it.

Was your horse not able to hocks injected or did you just decide to go this route instead?  Also I have both of my horses with OA in her hocks on Exceed 6 way and I will say I notice a big difference with this supplement.  I have had good luck with Exceed with all the horses I have used it on.

No she is able to have her hocks injected. Vet just didn’t want to start this as of right now due to once you start with injections, it’s something you have to keep doing from here on out and doesn’t last very long.. The shockwave has worked. I’ve seen a huge difference.

GLC5500MAX is the only oral joint supplement on the market with a powerful patented formula which allows the supplement to be absorbed 6x time more then any other supplement on the market including popular brands such as exceed 6 way, game charger, platinum, cosequin, etc. GLC5500MAX as a proven absorption rate of 63% whereas all other leading brands only have a 6-10% absorption rate. It is proven to reduce pain in as little as 2 weeks, increases HA production naturally in just 4 weeks, slows the progression of osteoarthritis, and reduces injections up to 80%. Its roughly $50 a month so it's very affordable. please email me at [email protected] or find me on facebook for more information!
