| I am wondering what you experience with Playgun mare
crossed with running blood stallion is? I have heard Playgun offspring can be bronky. Whatβs your experience? |

| I absolutely love the Playgun line and would go broke owning as many as I could. However, Iβve known a few own daughters of him that were cantankerous and just wilder than a March hare. That could have been due to their damβs bloodlines though, because every Playgun son (geldings and studs both) I have known were levelheaded, cool as a cucumber, not spooky and just amazing working horses.

Location: SoCal | I have a young mare out of a son of Playgun and a cowbred mare, solid cowbred, she's the quickest footed horse I've ever ridden. Will leave you in the dirt leaving a turn if you're not ready. Even with no running blood, she's fast. She'll easily clean up to a 1D horse if I can figure out how to stay on her. She is a bit hot but so is her dam, has never offered to buck when I'm on her and I got her just after 60 days from being started, and have had her for over 2 years now. She can be a little spooky (she's naturally kinda nervous though, again I think part of that comes from mom) but is very curious and likes to see new things. She pretty willingly will walk up to scary objects. The Playgun horses I've been around tend to be pretty quick and fast, and transfer well to barrels. I'd happily take another.
ETA: As looky as she can be, as soon as you put her on the pattern anything going on outside the arena fades away and she just wants to work. That's another thing I've noticed about her and her siblings, they love to work and have a job.

Location: Montana | I have a grandson of Playgun on the sire's side and is completely running bred on the dam's side (Easy Jet and thoroughbred). I love his temperament, he is so smart, and so well broke, but like Last Catt says, he can turn you out of a saddle if you aren't paying attention. He's not "broncy", but when he's had some time off he'll squeal and kick up his heels a couple times, then he's done, and he won't do it again until he's had another lay off...he's just being fresh and feeling good, and I like it when they feel good.
My overall opinion...I'm really loving him so far, he has a really cool personality, he takes things in stride so well! I've loped him through the pattern about 10 times, and its already starting to click. He's going to my barrel trainer the first of March, she has a Freckles Playboy bred and an Easy Jet bred, and so since he is a "cross" of those two lines, I think she can put a really nice barrel foundation on him. I expect him to be pretty much ready to enter when he comes back. He is that broke and that smart. I love him. |

Location: Arizona | We have a son of Ranger Cookie, who is a very accomplished Playgun son. Ours is a really nice rope horse, and has proven irreplaceable as a feedlot mount in the last year. He can flat fly too (and this is coming from a girl who was raised on running breds). He is a spooky, snorty sucker on the ground, and not particularly friendly. His name is Smoke but he gets called A***H**** just as often as his real name, lol. He's a working fool though, and honest as can be under saddle. Not broncy at all, but definitely spooky & watchy on the ground.Β |

Location: Where I am happiest | Β I saw there is a 2 yr old filly by PG Dry Fire on the fb page cowhorse for sale under 10,000. PG Dry Fire is by Playgun. He earned $150,000 himself and has sired numerous 1D, pro rodeo winners and American qualifiers. Probably shouldn't post that here but saw her post yesterday and thought she was a nice filly for super cheap. She is well under $5k |

Β PG Dry Fire is the sire. He does have his own FB page The filly is on the cow ponys under $10k page. Original poster is Fred Skinner. I just went and looked to make sure she was still there. She is. Its quite a ways down though. |

Location: on the fine line between insanity and geniusness | My first futurity colt was by a playgun son. She was quirky and a tad silly on the ground, but I would own a barn full of them in a minute. She was gritty and had a work ethic like no other!! We just recently bred a GD of High Brow Cat to a Playgun son- I canβt wait to see that little thing in a few months!! I am a huge fan of cow/run crosses, so I hope she gives me a filly to breed to my boy Iβve already picked! |

Location: north dakota | I bought a Special Leader daughter I use to own bred to PG Dry Fire. I was getting the mare irregardless of what she was bred to but I was pretty impressed with the versatility of PG Dry Fire and what he has produced. |

I have a 2017 filly by a son of Ranger Cookie! Out of an Oklahoma Fuel x Dash For Cash bred mare.
Mine has some Dash For Perks in there as well, so Playgun is the cowhorse breeding in with a lot of run...she's super smart, but full of fire. She is currently a BRAT. She paws when tied, so she's currently spending lots of time throwing fits in hobbles or pawing bracelets. She HATES to be by herself, so I tie her in the barn where she can't see anyone while I go work the riding horses and there is a whole lot of banging around going on in there (she throws herself against the panel since she can't paw well...works herself into a sweat everytime. I kinda can't wait til it's 105 degrees so I can tie her bratty butt up in the heat...put a stop to that crap real quick.
But other than that, she's very smart, very easy to work with when your focus is on her, not spooky. I can't see her being a bronc at all when I am ready to start her.
We gave a foal due in a couple of months by Hired Gun (son of Playgun) out of a cowbred mare. So we'll see if it's the Playgun or the run in my filly that makes her a brat. The gal that owns Hired Gun says he's a calm and cool as any horse she's ever been around.

Location: Wonderful Wyoming | My friend's husband owns and has won a lot of AQHA Select World Championships in the roping events, on their son of Playgun. His name is Playzorro. He's also a good sire, but they just compete in the roping. They are small, that is my only reservation with them. Otherwise very good minded and gentle. He's out of a daughter of Texas Kicker who is by my favorite Colonel Freckles. |

| Have a Playgun g-daughter -All cow on the bottom (Doc Tari) She is small and gritty. She can fly, but is ratey-ratey. You have to work to get her past a barrel, but she will turn the hair off of one. She does best with lots of riding and likes a job. If fresh she can be just silly, and jump at everything. When she is used, she is calm , cool and will take care of you -even in a bad situation. We do a lot of outside and cattle work with her. She runs barrels because we ask, BUT LOVES , cows. Husband ropes on her also. She is one we take to a rodeo and he can rope and if the ground is crap , I can run her, she is so ratey and knows where her feet are and how to take care of herself. ( She was a straight ranch horse first) She can get hot if she has been ran barrels much. She is one that is best to keep in shape with other stuff and not barrels. |

Ours is also very smart, but kind of a curious mix of hot and lazy lol. He'll prance a little as you head out of the arena after roping a steer, but by the time you get back to the front of the arena his head is level and he's just walking along like he's on a trail ride. Falls asleep waiting in the lineup to rope again. Falls asleep while tied up. But for the first 3 months after we bought him we had to blanket him because he was brought from AZ to MT in February, and every single night he acted like he'd never seen a blanket in his life! For a solid 60-80 days, it was so irritating, lol. He also has a thing about hoof stands, he thinks they're the devil. But even with his quirks I don't think my boyfriend would sell him for anything, he loves him to death.Β |

I also have a filly by the same Ranger Cookie son. Mine is a 2016. Even though she's not broke I liked her so much I bought another baby from the same breeder in utero. My filly is super smart and watchy. I'm excited to start riding her this year. She's very well behaved...so far! I'm stoked to even have a horse with Playgun on its papers ?? |
