Location: Covington,La | Iβve got a late coming 2 year old(may) who hasnβt caught up with her hind end. My thoughts were to hold off until end of year for her to catch up? |

| I start my young horses at 2-3 years old, depending on maturity- mentally, physically and emotionally. |

| I start everything as two year olds. They are not started on Barrels until late four year olds if they don't go to futurities. My five year old ran in her first race last Saturday. |

| So I start saddling as 2yos, light riding end of 2yo year, should be loping circles spring of 3yo year and started on the cans end of 3yo year. I like to do a lot of other things too though, like team penning practices (I don't actually compete) and trail riding and stuff. |

| I donβt do babies anymore, but the more I read, the more I go back to the old timers not starting until they are older. I have read that the back doesnβt quit bone solidification ( sorry, donβt think that is even a word)until the 4/5 year and in some cases a little longer. But I am not nor ever was in this to buy/sell and like I said, I no longer have the desire nor the skill to ride the babies. |

| I don't futurity and prefer rodeo horses so I don't start mine until they are older. |

Same here, I don't do babies anymore but when I did they were older like 3 old maybe a little older befor I really did anything with them. I saddle broke them going into their 2 1/2 year mark and pony them a lot to see the sights, but didn't get on them till they were 3.maybe a little older just depended on them. |

Location: LouLouVille, OK | If I start them as 2 yr olds, its 30 rides (trail) tops and turn out till they are 3... then start back up and I don't start mine on barrels till 4.... sometimes 5.... I like to let them finish growing up a little first and have a solid foundation before I start barrels... |

Our May baby wasn't started until the fall of his 2yo year. So he's coming 3 now with not quite 60 rides total and it's going great. I don't get in a hurry though considering my coming 6yo just started loping the pattern LOL.

| Mine are started when they are physically old enough to get started. I've only started one, to date, on barrels at age 3. Usually I'm just sending them off to get broke at 3, maybe even 4 if they are colt-ish looking or acting still. If they can't handle the breaking mentally then they come home and sit for another 6 months and I'll try again. |
