HELP! L&W Hackamore??

I recently got a thoroughbred mare that has the hardest mouth I have ever dealt with. Will literally pick up and run with a million dollar bit and mullen mouth on the backside of third off of the pattern because I cannot rate her down for the turn. First and second are beautiful. I contacted the original owner of her and she said she rode in a hack 100% of the time, she has not sent me clear pictures of the hack but the one in the link looks exactly to be it. Now my question to you, have you tried it? Likes/dislikes? Would you suggest the 7 or 9 inch shank?

Get a chain mouth draw gag, o-ring, or short lil lifter bit so that you can correct her when she "takes the bit"....solid mouth pieces allow a horse to "take the bit" and be in control. Get a chain to tune her with....she can't take it and go...your in control and can keep her collected. A hack is probably just going to enhance her run off. If your dead set on running in a hack thats fine I like a chain Jim Warner cover with black electric tape or a stivers hack...it'll take some play to determine shank length and greatly depends on your hands.

if she was on the track was she trained to take the bit and run? maybe the lady who rode in the hack did so and trained her to a new way of responding to one for cues.

She has never been on the track, previous owner bought her for his young daughter and was too much horse. Original owner had her for several years and really competed with her, from the videos she used the hack in the link as well as the mullen mouth with a running martingale. I don't have an actual arena to practice in just an open field with a plot of plowed ground for the barrels. Not sure if this could be the reason behind the third barrel issue since she can see on the backside of it that there is no fence keeping her contained. She is very on the muscle and ready to go...taking her to an arena on the 22nd for some expos and see how she does there.

The hack you shared in the link is what I've been told is the "yes ma'am" bit-used it and it worked-might not have to ride in it all the time, but definitely will get one "back into your hands" I've also called it the lady bug hack.

Thank you! This is exactly the answer I was looking for, I need something where she will respect me again and not think she is in charge.
