I have a friend looking for a saddle on a Buster Welch tree. Had a fitting done this weekend at a barrel race from a maker who uses a modified Buster Welch tree. Unfortunately this maker is simply out of her price range and you never see them used (even then would very likely be too high).

So we are on the hunt for makers who use Buster Welch trees in the sub $2000 price range.

We know we can call some makers and ask if they can build on a Buster Welch, but she’d really like to find something she can try out and run in first before she gets money wrapped up in a custom build she’s not sure she’ll even like the ride of.

I think the Jeff Smith C3's are built on a Buster Welch tree...I was just looking them up for one horse of mine. I think you could probably find used in her price range.

Most cutting horse saddles are made on a Buster. I would look for used cutting saddles if you want to try one.

I have one that is a BILLY COOK (Sulfur OK). At the time I bought it, they did not make a 16 inch seat. Mine is a 15 inch. I thought that would be big enough but it isn't. It still is very comfortable and I use it at home and for trail riding. Billy Cooks won't break the bank. I paid about $1000 for mine but saddles have gone up since then. Attractive saddle too

If you see a used one for under $2500 let me know I’ll buy it on the spot if it’s my seat size. I’ve only seen a couple used less than that and they were snapped up quick.

But yes, they are built on a modified Buster Welch.

Knew about the billy cooks, she wants something deeper in the seat though.

I’ve seen Corriente mentioned?

Buster Welch only describes the swells on a saddle. Many people do not understand this. It has nothing to do with the way the tree fits on the horse. You can have three BW trees by different makers and they will all fit the horse completely different - different bar angles, different gullets, different amount of rock, etc.

All BW is is the type of front it has on it.

The Jeff Smith Mary Walker saddle, the Courts Camarillo saddles are on a Buster Welch-either of those should be in the price range.
